i figured that i would get out of the invite so she doesnt have to feel so forced to keep me on her invite list.

i have known about this event for a long time now, so simply saying that something overlaps with it wont do.

she likes to keep her conversations professional and can easily be offended.

can anyone give me options of what to say to get out of the invite???

Dear Philly:

Your question demonstrates that you are equally a professional so why not thank her for the invite and ask her if it would be best to keep your working relationship professional and explain if necessary that you would be uncomfortable to do otherwise. If she is all that you say she is then she will understand.

Just so you don't have to lie, have your BF buy some concert tickets for that night. Everybody understands that a favorite band outweighs an informal get together.

But a lie would be a white lie in this case, since you're taking her off the hook.

I am a very straight forward person who works for money and not to make friends. I would simply tell her,"I know you wouldnt be heart broken if I didnt attend, so I am not going".

tell her that you've had a sudden change in schedule, and regretfully, will be unable to attend. Keep it short and to the point, don't offer details, just be brief and try to sound sincere

Just tell her that you've had something unexpected come up and you're going to have to skip this event.

Thank her for inviting you and stop letting this worry you! :o)

Good luck to you!
