My neighbor gave me a really nice kitchen table (solid oak), a really nice couch & lazy boy recliner, a dresser and a really cute vanity w/ mirror & some other smaller things. I asked her how much she wanted to give her for all that & she said it wouldn't fit in her trailer, so if I didn't take it she was just going to throw it away. Which is good cuz I don't have much money right now. So how can I show my appreciation for all this stuff? She leaves 5am tomorrow!!

You don't have much time! This is all you need to do:

1) Rummage about for some nice paper, if you can find any, and an envelope.

2) Cut the paper neatly with scissors or a cutting board to 7 inches by 4.5 inches, approximately. Neatly!

3) Write as neatly as possible:

Dear *name*,

It's been wonderful having you as a neighbor for the last *however long*. I'll miss your presence in the *neighbourhood/trailer park/whatever* and your kind words. Your kind gifts will be a wonderful addition to my *home/trailer/whatever*. Thank you so much! I appreciate everything you've done for me and the *neighbourhood or whatever*. I hope you'll visit once you are settled in at *Florida, or wherever she's going*. Until then, I hope you enjoy your fresh start!

With sadness,
*your name*

4) Modify that as needed, but make it a few notches more formal than you think it needs to be. That's about the right level of formality. Seriously. Casual letters sound silly. Make it nice. That's it! Fold it neatly, once, in the middle, and place it in the envelope. Do not lick it; just fold in the flap. On the f front, write her first name, in pen (like the letter itself). Drop it off ASAP. She'll appreciate it far more than a cooler of coke.

it's too late to invite her over for a meal so why not pack her some snacks for her journey? nothing elaborate, just something like fruit, tasty chips, etc. if you have one of those foam mini coolers, pack a few snapples to keep them cool, etc. include a nice note saying how you really appreciate it and include your contact info. when you hear from her, send a pic of the stuff with some fresh flowers on it to let her know how you will take good care of the stuff and appreciate it....

A meal, and some stuff for her to eat (if she's traveling) would be nice. Do you have any pictures of you/your family and her/herfamily? Grab an empty photo ablum, and stick them in there! Right her a letter about the time you've spend together.
Good luck!

The answers you got were great. If you don't have time to do something before she leaves, make sure you have her new address. Then you can send her a very heartfelt note and maybe something for her new place - like a picture frame, or candleholders, or even a gift certificate.

Get her a nice picnic together for the trip, or some cokes in a cooler, make a nice card telling her how nice it was of her to give you the furniture.

L.K. has the best thought that I read. A gas card for the upcoming trip will be helpful and you can give it to her in a nice note thanking her for all the things she gave you.

That's alot of nice furniture. Well, it would be good to have a photo taken with her for remembrance. Give her a copy of the photo plus a bag of goodies (food) for her to eat along her trip to her new place. Some suggestions would be cookies, pie, pastries.......use your imagination and discretion.

If she is not on a plane, bake her some brownies or something! (You can't take your own food with you)

Or just a really nice thank you card (even a note) as it is a thoughtful gesture. She'll understand.

I would give her a nice thank you card and a gift certificate for a gas station for 20 dollars for gas on the road.

Give her a very nice thank you note, and ask her to give you a call when she comes in town next time, so that you can take her to lunch.
