I just really could care less what women have to say. Am I alone with this one or do most guys tune women out. Most of the time, whatever they have to say is to no concern or interest to me.

I own a small business. A friend of mine comes in and helps me a few days a week. For the past few months, she has been chewing this sugar free citrus flavored gum. The first time I noticed, I walked in and asked "what is that aweful smell? It smells like cat pee!" We searched the entire place. There are 2 neighbor cats that freqently find there way to the doorways of my business, and I was afraid one of them had "marked their territory." But the closer I got to my friend, the stronger the smell. It was definitely her gum! Her husband agreed with me, and I let her know that she shouldn't chew it while she was at my place of business, for fear that customers might get a whiff and think the place was unclean, unsanitary, etc. (like a cat was in there & sprayed). But she still chews the gum. I've spoken to her 2-3 times, but it makes no difference. I don't want to ruin our friendship or our business relalationship. What can I do or say to make her stop chewing this nasty smelly gum?

This is a situation I haven't faced before.

My upstairs neighbors recently got a new puppy. As annoying as it is that this dog barks the entire time they are not home, they are also leaving the puppy unattended from anywhere from ten to thirty minutes on the balcony.

I have never seen them walk this dog, so I am assuming that they are just putting it out on the balcony to do it's business, which I find totally disgusting.

My question is how to tactfully deal with this? Should I call animal control or the police? Or do you think the apartment office would handle this?

My friends invited me to prom and I feel awkward going with them without a date of my own. Should I take up the invitation? Is it necessary that I find a date? I'm shy, so there is no way that I would ask someone. What should I do?

Personally i think they should, but have restrictions on the usages, like you can't be talking on it for the sake of talking on it when tons of people are around. But if you are in your private room, thats fine.

i ordered something to go at a restaurant today. i received the credit card receipt right after i ordered it, and on it was a section for tips. I wrote "0" and underneath wrote the price of my order.
do you think that a tip is neccesary for an order to go?

She ran out of toilet bowl cleaner and told me she used the rest of my mouth wash to clean the toilet. So I jokingly asked her "when she runs out of mouth wash does she gargle with toilet bowl cleaner" She got angry and then she quit.

Why is it considered "proper" to only stir your tea or coffee clockwise? It is something that was ingrained in me from childhood and it has always made me wonder why we must all stir our tea in one direction. Who the heck started this ridiculous rule? I am no longer going to conform to clockwise. Tea stirrers of the world unite!

I just got an e-mail from a professor saying that one of his close relatives passed away and class is canceled. Should I respond to him saying I'm sorry or will it sound like a platitude to get on his good side? Because I'm not friendly with him and we've never e-mailed about anything or spoken outside of the classroom. On the other hand, I'd rather not look like a heartless cow. What to do?

I live in an apartment complex and the noisy neighbors live below me. I work 3rd shift and they start playing their karaoke and having their "parties" about 10am; especially on the weekends. Obviously they wake me up. It's so loud I can sing along to the songs and keep up with their conversations. The last tenant to live there was evicted for being too loud. The current tenant just moved in like 3-4 months ago, and I don't want to start any trouble. How can I be stern but nice about this?

Obviously, we are looking for some type of help with an issue, whats wrong with being nice about it. What if something you say thinking its (funny) really hurts someone, now im smart enough to know that the occasional jerk is waiting in the wings to be a moron but most people are decent. To all of you who answered and helped, thank you, sometimes its nice to be able to ask the (what would you do) question to those who have nothing at stake and get some good feedback , to the rest of you... get a life and find something better to do.

It seems like in America a person needs to dish out for extras for almost everything.
In Europe, where tipping is not customary, the tip actually is considered as a bonus and people are truly grateful to have received it for their good service.
I tip well, since I worked as a waitress for two years and my income pretty much solely consisted of tips. But sometimes I feel it is going too far in America now.

i'm bipolar & on meds. i volunteer for political campaigns in my spare time for something to do. while there, i walked up to my friend (also male) and his g/f whom i had just met and two other women i had never met, along with another guy about my age standing in a circle and said "lordy lordy look who's forty" . i'm 28. all the women got EXTREMLY OFFENDED. i just said it b/c i usually say some off the wall thing & people laugh. didn't work this time! my friend immediatly asked me how i got there, i drove, so he offered me a ride home immediatly & we left. now, that was 3 days ago. i'm supposed to volunteer tomorrow. do i appologize to my friend, track his g/f down, the politician running? should i blame it on meds, say i just got carded again and that 30 didn't rhyme & explain it was a joke. not bring it up since it'll be 4 days ago? my wife thinks it was extremely funny just cause it sounds like something i'd do. help, i'm thinking about quitting & just wait to see if he asks me back
