It seems like in America a person needs to dish out for extras for almost everything.
In Europe, where tipping is not customary, the tip actually is considered as a bonus and people are truly grateful to have received it for their good service.
I tip well, since I worked as a waitress for two years and my income pretty much solely consisted of tips. But sometimes I feel it is going too far in America now.

I agree with you that the European way is much easier, and I wish we didn't have the tipping system, but rather, employers would just pay their staff a decent wage so they don't have to rely on tips.

i agree with you on that ,, though we aprreciate the hard work of the working ppl and the good service. tip shouldn't be considered as part of wages.
i don't live in the USA and in my country it's not such a cusomary habit. but i do notice it when visiting the US .. and i think this is primarly due to the low wages that ppl get and the high rates of taxes and so on, from where i come from we don't even have taxes !
so i think this habit can be changed if the government tried to help out a lil bit and support the hard working classes,

still Tipping is a good thing ,, it always feels good when helping others.

Sorry, Starbucks, Baskin Robbins, Cinnabon...
If you make minimum wage or more an hour, tips are not part of your income as with waiters who make $3 an hour and depend on tips to make a living. If my local barista goes out of their way to do something nice, sure I could tip but to give a dollar for doing their job?...nah.

I have only ever tipped in a sit down restaurant setting and when staying at an upscale hotel during travel. I've not heard of anyone else asking for tips.

Though tipping is not customary in Europe,it IS included in the check. Here in America, you want quality, then you pay for it.
