i'm bipolar & on meds. i volunteer for political campaigns in my spare time for something to do. while there, i walked up to my friend (also male) and his g/f whom i had just met and two other women i had never met, along with another guy about my age standing in a circle and said "lordy lordy look who's forty" . i'm 28. all the women got EXTREMLY OFFENDED. i just said it b/c i usually say some off the wall thing & people laugh. didn't work this time! my friend immediatly asked me how i got there, i drove, so he offered me a ride home immediatly & we left. now, that was 3 days ago. i'm supposed to volunteer tomorrow. do i appologize to my friend, track his g/f down, the politician running? should i blame it on meds, say i just got carded again and that 30 didn't rhyme & explain it was a joke. not bring it up since it'll be 4 days ago? my wife thinks it was extremely funny just cause it sounds like something i'd do. help, i'm thinking about quitting & just wait to see if he asks me back

I don't get it? Why was that offensive, unless you were refering to one of the women's breast size

But you probably should be drinking if you are bipolar and on meds.

You MUST have done something more than you are writing here because I can not understand why anyone would want to drive you home for a silly comment. I suppose it is your meds and drinking combined that caused your problem. Not just your comment. Possibly ask your friend why he felt it necessary to drive you home.

Personally, I don't have the foggiest idea why anyone was offended by that. It's not like you said it to any given person... you just said it out of nowhere. I wouldn't even worry about it. Don't blame it on anything because you didn't do anything wrong. Blaming it on your being bipolar only adds the existing stigma surrounding mental illness.

Just forget it. I think it was funny. Stuff like that often happens to me as well. Those women would probably never like you anyway, and your friend just has to understand you have a quirky sense of humor. Maybe make a general apology, and not bring up this specific event.

are you sure that's all you said?
did you slur it?
if you are bipolar and on med's you shouldnt be drinking anyway,....they may not be offended at all.........you could have read them wrong. he might have hustled you out of there just because you "sounded" intoxicated. an intoxicated volunteer is death to a politician.
i'd go back, but don't drink.

i would have laughed : )

but, since they didn't you should apologize immediately to your friend and anyone who was offended, and just let them know that you don't always make the best jokes, and you're lucky to have found a wife that can actually understand your humour. (just a bit of a joke to lighten the mood and show them that you really were trying to be funny)

first of all never quite, because after a while all of this will be a funny memory, all what you have to do is to know how to pass through such a situation.
ignore what happened as if it never happened, & go and voluntire
because not going is just lide running away , and thats will make nothing but a cowared.
