I live in an apartment complex and the noisy neighbors live below me. I work 3rd shift and they start playing their karaoke and having their "parties" about 10am; especially on the weekends. Obviously they wake me up. It's so loud I can sing along to the songs and keep up with their conversations. The last tenant to live there was evicted for being too loud. The current tenant just moved in like 3-4 months ago, and I don't want to start any trouble. How can I be stern but nice about this?

Invite them to your home for a party and keep the noise at (what is for them) an acceptable level, then after they go home keep the music where it is. This way they will get the idea that what is acceptable to them can still be heard through the walls.

Or you can record their conversations (or whatever) and leave the recording on their doorstep. I am sure that when they realize that their private moments are not private then they will keep it down.

I've had this problem before. I wanted to go to their door and ask them to keep the noise down, but I thought that could possibly end up wrong. I decided to stay anonymous about it. I put in an anonymous complaint to the apartment complex and they called the offenders for me. When that didn't work, I called the city police department and made a complaint. They came by in 5 minutes and patrolled the apartment complex. That effectively put an end to the partying. Good luck.

I know it's not much fun to work graveyard and try to sleep when everyone else is awake.. but unfortunately in this situation you're the odd man out and you can't expect everyone else to be quiet during the day so you can sleep. People are going to mow lawns, whack weeds, play the piano, sing.. whatever.

My hubby has worked shifts on and off for years, and he swears by those little foam ear protectors that fit into the ear canal. He gets them from work.. they are used in noisy industrial areas but are also great for daytime sleepers. I would suggest trying those.

Of course you could always ask them to try to be a bit quieter, but there's no guarantee that will work.. the ear plugs at least you have control over :)

Just tell them that you work a different shift, and you would appreciate it if they would keep it down when you are trying to sleep. If they give you some smart response or keep it up, report them to the management. Everyone in an apartment complex will have different schedules and needs, and everyone else will have to adapt to those. That's just how apartment life is. But noise will always lose out.

I had this problem with my next door neighbor and his dogs. Thank goodness he moved so now it is quiet.
Depending on your relationship with your neighbor you might politely ask them to be less noisy. You also have to remember they already know they are making noise and probably don't care. If you don't want to confront them directly you can call the police or tell the apartment manager. If you have already spoken to them and they don't stop with the noise then if you call the police they will know it is you. The question then is will they retaliate against you?

Good luck!

Just walk over and talk with them. Be careful not to raise your voice or sound insincere. Just let them know you're needing some quiet time for sleep and unfortunately you need the sleep for your next work shift. They can't do anything but oblige. Of course, if they don't, call the police. :)

Just go over there and tell them they are not the only ones in the apartment complex.

Ask them polietly to turn it down a notch.....set a limit.Ex. they can be loud until 7:30 and then if they don't tell them that you will take them to court.......but don't really. Scare them enough to make them shut the crap up.

Good luck

Find out the time they sleep and return the favor. Or keep pounding on the floor.

Move...jk

there isn't much you can do other than cause trouble...if you confront them it may get worse. Sad but true.
