Ignore all the idiots saying its lame to go to prom without a date. Prom will be more fun with your friends than it ever could be with a date, and you could meet someone there. That isn't to say you should turn down a date if you want to go, but you don't need one. I'm planning on going to prom with my friends whether or not I have a date, because 6 people has to be more entertaining than 1. Just go to prom and have fun.

Back in ancient history (1989), I actually forced my high school to change its prom ticket sales policy so I could buy a single ticket. I was completely uninterested in going with a date, because high school boys are idiots. I went with a bunch of friends and had an absolute blast. Look at it this way: without a date you can dance with whoever you want, you are liberated from doing those awful slow dances, and you don't have to put up with some doofus trying to feel you up in the limo on the way home. Or who knows, maybe you'll even leave with someone else's date!

It's not lame at all. What's lame is missing out on a milestone of your youth because you don't have a date. There will be plenty of people who go without a date. You may feel awkward at first but friends who are good enough to invite you along will not let you feel awkward for long.

You hit the nail on the head...I am 51 and did not go to either one of my proms and yes I regret it. Go with a friend or group of friends, if they have dates, so what? There will be others are the prom "stag" or alone. Go and have a good time, make memories and just enjoy yourself. You are only young once.

I wanted to go so bad to my prom. I got a beautiful pink sparkely dress pink dotted swiss and shoes. I asked this guy out, who was 21, and I liked him a lot and thought he felt the same way. He said: "No." After that I asked the Dean of Girls if I could go by myself with friends. She said it would be odd.
I was disheartened.
On my prom night, I worked so I could forget the memories that I might have had.
My prom dress sits in the closet still, as a negative reminder.

It's lame to miss your prom just because you don't have a date. Yes, if you don't go, you will later regret.
It's a basic truth: You are more likely to regret what you don't do (like miss the prom) than you are to regret doing something (going to the prom with friends).
Godspeed.

No it's NOT lame to go without a date. Don't buy into the "cult of the couple"!
On the other hand, you shouldn't be afraid to ask someone, if that's what you really prefer.

No babe. It's not lame. If you want to go, go. You don't need a date to go. A date is not mandatory at prom. Have fun ;)

No it's not lame - I went to my balls with my gal friends and we had a fab time.
It doesn't sound like you want to go though. If this is the case, don't and save the money you would spend on the night being totally miserable.
But if you want to go - then go with your friends.
have fun and don't give a S*&^ what other people think!
Whatever you decide, be happy with your decision:-)
Goo luck!
