I have just been looking through some questions and there was a whole debate going on. A girl, who was quite naive, maybe a teenager, used the word negro but later corrected it to negroid. She was british and did not know that this word would offend anybody, but obviously it did. She repeatedly said sorry and some girl wouldn't leave her alone. I understand if someone uses the word meaning to be direspectful, but if she didn't know the word would offend, was it still correct for people to harass her for it? I don't think the British use all these derogetory terms quite as much as americans do, so if you are unaware of it and still quite young, should they be treated as racists?. Are there any other things that Brits say that would offend?

This would be someone like a co-worker or the technician at the vet's office. Do you bounce right back and address it or do you stand there and analyze whether or not you've really been spoken to badly. Give examples if you want.

I've noticed in numerous television shows, that the family members etc ... all keep their shoes on, when entering a house. Wouldn't a person's floors/carpet be really dirty, if everyone wears their shoes in the house? I, myself, have never been to a home where anyone keeps their shoes on. They'd be tracking in dirt, grass and dog poop!! Is this the norm ... for people to walk into a house and keep their shoes on?

If you we're with a friend and she wanted to get something fatty and you we're worried about getting fat and you like let her get it and she was eating by herself or you got a smaller size would it make her feel embarrased or make her think your no fun. I'm 13 and most of my friends eat more than I do and aren't as worried about getting fat.

I am Romanian, and in our country, we always take off our shoes when we enter a home.
But I've seen a lot of American movies where none of the characters did that when they arrive at someone's place. Is that the general rule in America? And do you find the unshod lifestyle to be weird?

Yesterday at work I turned in a flash drive that a friend had left behind because my friend said that she would come by and get it that afternoon. I gave it to the office secretary and saw that she put it in the top drawer of her desk, which is unlocked. Today my friend called me and said that she didn't get it and asked me if I could get it out of the office for her (I have a key). I don't usually get into people's desks, but I was wondering if it would be okay. I'm not sure it would be best to call the secretary at home to ask for permission. What do you think?

My sister was asked out by a black co-worker.
She likes him as a co-worker, and fully supports equality for everyone, but only dates men in her race.

Her boss told her it's illegal to decline to date someone based on race. He even urged her to rethink it and accept his offer, so as to prevent "trouble".

For the record, The Black man took it in stride, no "trouble" is expected from him.

What is the best advice in dealing with a barn manager's over- inflated ego? She is rude, aggressive, uncommunicative and a bully. She thinks she owns the boarders horses and dictates how much food they get. Everyone thinks she is rediculous but can't change the fact she is there. It's a control and power thing. She makes the barn atmosphere very unpleasant. How would you handle that? Remember my two horses are there and some people are very vengeful. The owner is away on business until July and unreachable.

She buried it, and came home crying, telling me that she didn't have it in her to tell the neighbors, who aren't home right now, that their dog had been hit by a car over nite. she wants me to tell them. who should?
