They sometimes look at me strange when I approach and tell them that I have a reservation.

I've worked in restaurants for years. A pleasant greeting is always good, and then ask. For example..."Hi, how are you tonight? (wait for response...then...) We have a reservation for two under 'Smith' at 7:00".

Are they looking at you strange because you've made reservations at a place that normally doesn't take them? Just a thought....

If reservations are standard at this place, then simply walk up and tell them that you have a reservation for #:## (time). They will ask you the name it's under and tell them. You should refer to yourself as a 'party'. Sometimes you might be meeting others. So you might have a reservation for 4 people. When two of you arrive, they might tell you that the rest of your party has arrived. Or you may be the first couple to get there. So when the waiter arrives, you can tell him that you want to wait for the rest of your party before ordering. When the rest of the party arrives, typically the host will tell them that the guests are already there.

Reservation for ...(Party's name), for...(# of peep's). Thank you. Then if they still look at you stupid then just stare into their eye's until they respond. If they ignore you break out the cell and call the place you are at and ask for the manager to step out front( even if the person you told your reservation info to, answer's the call. Then the manager will show you the best hospitality, maybe something on the house, and dummycuz out front will probably need to find a new job. They shouldn't make some one feel stupid when they are coming to spend money. It is bad for business.

You are fine... perhaps you are going to places where they hire the mentally challenged.

You always simply walk in and tell them you have a reservation. If they are looking are you oddly then they have issues that do not concern you.

When you get eye contact with the host/hostess you say,"Good evening. I have a reservation under the name of Jones please".

After you stroll in, casually say, "(greeting), reservation for ...(Whatever the name)" make strong eye contact when you say it, be polite, and appear confident. Works like a charm.

Tell them your name and say that you have a reservation... If the wait staff are irritating, then go to another restaurant; unless your in France where it's obligatory to be arrogant and irritating...

hi. if they are looking at you strangely, i think they lack good service skills. I deem it appropriate enough by just saying that you have made a reservation under (name) at (time).
they should be professional enough to make you feel welcome and show you the way to your table.
