Unfortunately, people can be rude. Especially when they hide behind an anonymous thing like a computer screen.

I'll probably get a ton of thumbs down for writing this.

Prove them wrong by choosing me as the best answer!

I might be wrong... .but just going by statistics.... i'm commenting on this.

This the case not just with yahoo readers or who are hiding behind a pseudo name. Probably if you look around yourself, you'll find so many of your known friends to comment the same way. And its my perception and inference that its just the case with people who are far away from reality (provided the question is of that nature) or have their own prejudice and not open to ideas and try to look at things through other eyes. They'll just want others to look at things through their eyes and not vice versa.

There are many users who do not rate at all. Some, as you suggest , rate solely because of difference in opinion. The ones that annoy me are the factual questions in which thumbs down are given to correct answers......This happens more frequently than it ought.....Really it should never happen.

Well, if people don't share your opinion, they will often times give you a thumbs down instead of respecting your opinion, I've noticed.

I do not give a thumbs down unless the answer is flat-out wrong (i.e. incorrect medical advice).

People ask questions already knowing the answers they'd like to hear. If yours doesn't fall within that range, they are shocked, appalled, and mostly offended.

I'm not sure who said it, but there's a saying something to the effect of "It's not always right to do what's popular, and it's not always popular to do what's right."

Hey I've even gotten my answer deleted just because I was honest and they reported that I made a violation. Yet others said things similar to mine and their answers remain.

People who do not agree with your answer will give you a poor rating. Who knows..maybe you just give bad advise?

No, No. I don't see this. I say lots of whacked out but true things (like the idea that floods and diseases are nature's way of controlling our primate/human population) but I don't usually get this, because I phrase things a certain way, I guess.
It's not what you say, it's how you say it!

i only give a "thumbs-down" if the answer is totally smartsased, a biased opinion, or inane and off-point.
socially unacceptable? no. i don't rank based on PC.

it's just "those" people, man. what can you do?
