It takes some getting use to, but it can teach a well meaning person to be careful about throwing pearls. Some members of Yahoo Answers are looking for others to agree with them rather than the truth. Where this can hurt is when the questioner appears to be asking a question that we can answer in the form of hard earned knowledge, but what the questioner wants is an answer that agrees with some game, book or film and thus "real" answers are put down.

Questioners may sometimes design questions that beg answers just to see how many people they can stir up. It can save a lot of frustration if we take some steps before answering.

Many times the type of egos people have can be seen in their ID so if the ID doesn't fit the question, ...
What other questions and answers has the questioner produced is always good to know before deciding to answer.

In spite of all of this, there is nothing better than a question that really grabs you and makes your mind and heart start to sort things out. And even though we answer a question that somehow wasn't intended for us, our answer, based on REALITY is still there for a while for all to read.

I think it's probably in the way you answer the question. Telling the truth doesn't really get your a poor rating, I don't seem to have that problem. I think it's the way the answer is being presented.

I don't have that problem. I always answer truthfully or with my honest opinion and I usually get thumbs upped.
Maybe you should consider rewording your answers or staying away from emotionally charged subjects.
