Etiquette - January 2007

I sit next to a lady, who has really, stinky feet. We get along really well and I don't want to offend her, but I just can't stand it anymore. I find the odour gets worse in the afternoon, as she has a habit of taking her shoes off later in the day. I don't want to embarass her, so I've just made off comments here and there like "do you smell something?" or when there's a group of us in the same area, I will just blurt out "someone's got stinky feet". The hints are not working with her, but I think everyone else I work with is paranoid about their personal hygiene...

I used to work retail a few years ago - and I think every shopper should be required by law to atleast experience what it's like to work as a cashier.

When I'm checking out at a store, I always get upset when I see a cashier with his/her hand held out to accept the customer's form of payment, just to see the customer throw the cash or credit card down on the counter! It's so rude. The cashier's face looks so dejected! It's really demeening to the cashier - especially when the customer throws down a bunch of coins.

Am I alone on this feeling about putting money in the cashier's hand? What do you all think?

What do you think about nose picking:

1. Disgusting habit, should never be done
2. Only okay with handkerchief and in private
3. Okay to pick nose with fingernail in private and properly disposed of in a tissue
3. Okay to pick and flick

6. Okay to pick and eat in public
7. Good healthy thing to do

Movie theaters, restaurants, grocery store check-out lines, you name it - some idiot will be there yammering away

I think that is absolutely rude and totally unacceptable behavior.
I never use mine when other people are around.

People got along just fine before cell phones were invented.

I hope more businesses continue to install cell phone jammers.

I always wonder how much to tip and when. In general I tip 20% on a bill at a restaurant...if it was exceptional service I go up. Is that even good anymore? Today though, I didn't tip on a carry out and wondered if I should have? If so, how much? How far do you go...seems like so many places put those tip jars out. Just wondering what most people do.

I was looking into getting an apartment for next year with a friend and two other guys we kinda knew. We had been looking at apartments (just the friend and I, the other two guys had been flaky). We waited a little bit too long because a lot of the stuff has been filling up or is a little too expensive. I then got an offer from another friend to live in his apartment next year for a good price and a lot more room than what the other places had; I decided to take it and I feel kind of bad because I backed out of the oral agreement with the first friend and now he has to change what he was looking for.

Would you been offended if a friend did this to you?

When waiting behind a stationary car in the dark, do the brake lights of the car in front irritate you? I always use my handbrake when stationary to spare the car behind me a blinding dose of red light. It's so easy with an auto box to just sit and wait with your foot on the brake, but is it polite?

my spanish teacher was born is spain and moved to america after her and her husband were married. they lived in new york for a while, moved to Oklahoma, and are now in this small town where I live. I was lucky to have a TRUE SPANISH TEACHER! I would like to tell her thank you by getting her a gift. I've already given her a card, but that was for something else. No more cards. I asked another question about my Nephuew's girlfriend and her behavior and boy did I ever get it socked to me. Am I a prude for not wanting my grandchildren exposed to that?I was told that I was being judgemental and I know that I am in the respect that I don't want my grandkids to say that word or to use drugs and to think this is normal and my lifestyle is adnormal. So do I give up on teaching my grandchildren morrals?
