I am a cashier ( many years of experience!) and yes I hate it when a customer throws their money or credit card at me or on the counter or belt.(Grocery store) I frequently use hand santizer so PLEASE don't worry about germs ok? I am NOT afraid to touch you so don't act like that with me. I do understand if you come from a culture that accepts money on a counter and not in your hand. Just tell me before I try to put it into your hand and please do so POLITELY. Last week a co-worker had a female customer cough and then sneeze on her money and then HAND IT OVER to my co-worker. COME ON....the money is already dirty and then you put your flu germs and bodily fluids on it? That speaks volumes on how you were raised by your parents/family.If a customer comes to me and puts their money or credit card on the counter, that is how I return it to them...politely! :)) I understand that customers do NOT like it when cashiers do not count out the money...(ones, fives, tens etc) They were not taught correctly by the mgt!!! Just ask the cashier POLITELY to count it back to you! :) I always count it back and I DO not the money over in a wad....I have been overseas and they have alot better customer relations skills than American workers!

This is a place for common cents in the business. In some countries the cash is never handed to another hand. Please don't be mad at some people that don't know your local customs.
When you go to a casino, the money is put on the counter for verification purposes. when you go to a retail store you get the money in hand because the retail store has not set up a system to accept payment methods on the counter. In other countries the retail store had a clear plastic dish where you put your payment. the cashier will put the return change in the same plastic dish. This plastic dish is shaped in a way that makes it easy and effectively to grab the form of pay.
Quit being retards and you are in a multicultural nation. And as people travel more you also have many tourist1

I put the money in the cashier's hand, where it should be. I cannot stand customers who throw the money on my counter....most of the time, I will slap their change down on the counter in the same manner as they did, and trust me, it does get their attention!
I agree that everyone should have to work as a retail cashier at least one week out of their life, then perhaps they would have more respect for cashiers.

Sometimes I even count out the dollars then place the cents on top--- in the cashier's hand.
I agree-- throwing money isn't very kind.
I started as a cashier in the work world years ago. It wasn't often people threw money/payment at me. But it seems that common courtesy to others in ALL forms has really gone down hill now a days-- including treating cashiers like humans!

I feel your pain I too worked as a cashier and that is the most rude thing that a customer can do however I will put my money on the counter even now for several reasons like if I just saw them sneeze or cough into their hands or the have been rude to me by not saying hello how are ou today? If they don't like their job there are other options available Or if I am in a real big hurry and they are being deliberately slow for that reason.

Yes I feel it is. There are so many reasons why. I was once a cashier and I always found placing the money on the counter when my hand is open is rude. I have had people get rude when I return the change the same way. They would ask, "Are you too good to put it into my hand". My response, "I was trying to be courteous and return it to you the way you provided." If you are worried about germs, you wouldn't handle money to begin with. Swipe your credit or debit card. You also wouldn't pump your own gas or enter any establishment where other people inhabited. Be courteous. This is America. Place it in their hand.

I work as a desk clerk at a hotel, and some people throw a fit if you don't lay the money in their hands--they even go as far as to call your boss and complain about it; I think it depends on the person, I was trained to lay it on the counter when I give the money back, but I always hand it to the cashier myself.

I always place the money in the persons hands. I don't understand why it is so hard to give the person the money. However, today at a local restaurant, the customer placed the money on the counter and slid it to the cashier. The cashier rang up the purchase and slid it to him. The look on the mans face was priceless!! He looked at her and me collected his money and left. I had a big smile on my face it was H U G E !!!!!!!

i was once a cashier and i totally know what you are talking about....it is totally rude and i dont know why people do it...i always hand the cashier my money (unless she is totally rude)....my sister was a cashier and she'd get really irritated when people would do that...she told me that she finally got to the point that when some-one would slap their money down on the counter she would just stare at the person until they picked up the money and put it in her hand!! i'd love to see that!

yes it is definitely rude to deliberatedly put your money down on the counter so that the cashier has to scrape it back up, especially when they have their hand held out waiting for the money
i always hand my payment directly to the cashier, even if that means I AM sitting there with my hand out waiting for a while, which is usually the case
