In a fancy restaurant, after having finished the soup, should one leave the spoon in the bowl or put it outside the bowl on the soup-saucer (if there is any)?

When a service plate under the soup bowl is provided, always place your spoon on the service plate behind the bowl. If no service plate is provided, obviously you rest your spoon in the soup bowl. Used utensils are never placed on the table.

When out at restaurants, soup is typically served in a bowl that sits on a service plate. When you are resting, place the soup spoon on the plate or leave it in the bowl. When you are finished, place the spoon on the plate.

You should probably leave it in the bowl unless you plan on using the spoon again. It's annoying for the waiter to have to pick up your bowl AND spoon. At least in the bowl it won't fall off onto the floor.

When you have finished, leave your plate where it is in the place setting. Do not push your plate away from you. Lay your fork, knife or spoon diagonally across your plate and side-by-side. The knife and fork should be placed as if they are pointing to the numbers 10 and 4 on a clock face.
