My sister was asked out by a black co-worker.
She likes him as a co-worker, and fully supports equality for everyone, but only dates men in her race.

Her boss told her it's illegal to decline to date someone based on race. He even urged her to rethink it and accept his offer, so as to prevent "trouble".

For the record, The Black man took it in stride, no "trouble" is expected from him.

It's not illegal yet. Someday they may force people to date without regard to race, physical defect, national origin, height, weight, and even sexual orientation!
Thankfully that day isn't here, yet.
The boss sounds like a clod and deserves the remarks here. But I'll offer a morsel in his defense. As a boss, his employer has probably sent him to repeated meetings on varius discrimination issues. Even an intelligent person begins to feel that work place is a minefield of potential lawsuits. So a dope (like him) tends to over-react.

WOw! I have never heard of anything like this in my life!!! The 'boss' who made this comment needs some education in management and etiquette. There is nothing illegal about declining a date - period - it does not matter what it is based upon. My goodness! Dating someone is a PERSONAL RIGHT - has nothing to do with the law! Who the heck is this boss?? He does not need to be 'the boss' of anyone with knowledge of ignorance such as this - and to pass this along ? Your sister has the right to date who she wants. Futhermore, if she is smart - she will NEVER date someone she works with anyway. There can be mothing but grief from that. In fact, 'bosses' (I used to be one) who are smart, would never 'openly ' encourage co-workers to get invovled. That's not to say it can't happen - people will do what they want - but in my field -it took 10 years before the company would allow husbands and wives to even work together - then it was separate departments. I have known of workers dating and even marrying, but they were smart - the female left and found employment elsewhere just because of the nature of the potential elements of trouble that could brew. Finally, the boss is wrong for getting involved in this anyway. It's not his business! He obviously has too much time on his hands otherwise, he would not be in the local company 'drama'./soap opera.

As far as I know there are no laws stating that it is Illegal to decline a date by race. If there is such a law then that law would be violating your human rights. I think maybe your sister's boss is just saying that because he wants to avoid conflict in the work place if the employees are racially discriminant. And from what you've told as the boss was over reacting and that guy your sister declined to date had been a gentleman.

That is certainly not illegal. I wonder why the boss would even encourage two co-workers to become involved in a personal way considering the possibility of tension in the workplace. Tell her not to compromise her standards, especially in areas of her personal life. Compromise? It would be a surrender.

Sounds to me like she could sue her boss for harassment. Her boss has no right to tell her. It is not illegal and if the other guy took it in stride then what's the problem. Sounds like the boss doesn't want to upset the other guy and he's using your sister. Her boss better watch his step, because what he did to your sister is what's illegal.

She should tell her boss she doesn't mix work with pleasure and that's why she declined. It's really no one's business why she declined but hers.

As for legal discrimination - not hiring or continuing employment based on gender, age, race, religion is against the law. Dating has nothing to do with work.

simply by fact they intend to make their invasion look professional. What i hit upon humorous is that maximum criminal mexican individuals help rights and privileges for unlawful immigrants. in the event that they could give up and think of roughly it for a minute, criminal immigrants could understand that the illegals will finally injury this financial equipment and u . s . and it will finally end up a sh*thole like mexico is. Then what form of greater advantageous existence will you have? by how Rosie, the certainty that all of the states you pronounced used to hitch mexico does not remember. We kicked your a$$es interior the conflict and could do it returned interior the civil conflict it is coming near.

Her boss is being "illegal" by encouraging her to do something that she doesn't want to do. What goes on at work is her boss's business, what your sister does in her home/personal life is hers.

No, there is no law on the correct procedures of dating. Anything goes. There is a Marriage Act but there seems to be no Dating Act. Even in marriage though the parties are allowed to choose whoever they want to marry (unless they're underaged or of the same sex).

While what the lady did may be legal it is very mean to the black guy. While it may seem as if he took it in his stride he may just be trying hard to be polite. In reality he is probably devastated.

Not illegal, no.
At least not anywhere I know of.
Controversial, however.
Because if you say you have a sexual preference to white men, then many people will find that racist even when it's not the case. :(
I also have a preference towards blondes, does that make me bigoted towards brunettes? Of course not!
I hate hate hate people thinking I'm racist for completely harmless things like that.
