When did this become acceptable? My kids are still young (toddlers) but when they're old enough to understand how to address a person properly, I'm going to teach them to call a person Ms. Jackson instead of Ms. Linda. Why is this OK? I noticed this a lot in my sons' daycare. When did this become the standard way of doing things? I think elders deserve respect, and by calling someone by their first name (even though there's a Ms. or Mr. in front of it) seems disrespectful and almost slang-y to me. Am I the only one who feels this way?

If you have a worker-type friendship relationship, (as I do) with a coworker of mine and I ask her to join me for lunch – does that mean I am supposed to pay for her meal?

I mean... I have no problem doing so if I have the money, and our relationship is purely leveled as I already have a girl and she knows this. I am just wondering that if *just because I invited her* to join me for lunch, does that automatically suggest I should have to pay?

Want to make sure I know the right etiquette here. Thanks! ^_^

When I offered to pay half of the gas cost on a 250+ mile trip, the person I am getting a ride from said, "No, you don't have to do that, I was going to go anyway." Now, he was going to go anyway, I just found out about it and asked if I could ride with. But I know there is no such thing as a free ride, and I want to make it easier to take these trips in the future. How do I politely pay for what I consider to be my share?

In English "*****" is offensive while "black" is acceptable
In Portugeuse "*****" is acceptable while "preto" (i.e. black) is offensive.
Why do think this is?

Four lanes of traffic and the guy in the left lane is going the slowest. Why do people do this? Why do people refuse to allow others to pass? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a study that showed the average commute in a large city would be reduced by 15 minutes if people would allow others to pass. The study also showed that slow drivers in the left lane had an increased likelihood of being involved in traffic accidents.

You know, the ones who sing, preach or talk to the invisible person beside them.Does anybody else have this experience? It always seems that the seats are full and there's no where to move away from them.

A woman I supervise is leaving her position in a few weeks. over a year ago I lent her a book that while I haven't needed it in a year is a book I enjoy having for a reference. There is a lot of disrespect from the staff for the supervisors (myself included) I'd really like to get my book back how do I ask for it without seeming rude.

I have lived at this same address for nearly six years and recently a bunch of new people have moved into a newly built complex next door. They party until 2 in the morning and a couple of them have dogs that just will not shut up.I am left with having to deal with more noise then anyone should have to deal with.I feel like I am living in a darn trailer park even though this is an upper class neighborhood. It has always been quite here.Until now.

What should I do?

I have now been wearing my slippers at work for several weeks now. They are traditional brown corduroy ones with elastic gussets. As I work in an office, I wondered whether this would be acceptable, but they seem to look OK with my shirt, tie and trousers. So far, I have recieved only a couple of bemused comments and looks. I adore wearing my slippers, they fit snugly and are wonderfully comfy. Does anyone else wear their slippers at work? Is this OK?

I know that tipping is practically obligatory in America, but I have never been tipped by an American (I live in Australia, and work in a restaurant), I have been tipped by Aussies, kiwi's and anyone else you care to mention, but never by Americans, which strikes me as weird because they tip everywhere in America. I don't mean any disrespect at all, I am just curious.
Oh, and before you say that it's because I don't deserve a tip, I assure you that is not true, I am a fine waitress, and my restaurant serves good food.

Those stupid people who drive slow in the fast lane....is it wise to get back at them or just ignore them? Even if you flip them off, there is always another jerk the next day who will drive slow in the fast lane.

It's like there's a new jerk born every second. It's useless to try to get back at them. What do you think?

I know I am a good server, and I don't understand why people profusely thank me and tell me how great I was and then leave 10%, or less, after I sang happy birthday to their bratty kids and rushed their order out because they were in a hurry. It happens every day, and I am sick of rude people. If you don't want to tip go to Mc Donalds.

When did people become so inconsiderate? I'm 24 years old & it blows my mind to hear my peers & children demanding things instead of saying please! If such demands are met, there usually isn't a thank you attached to them. Is it just me or do most people seem selfish & greedy now days?
