Yeah, they did. It's amazing, isn't it? And did saying goodbye when hanging up the phone fall off the Earth too? Maybe the parents that flip people off when their kids are in the car, forgot to use a turn signal, and are on the cell phone without a hands free device are their parents.
Makes sense to me.

It's a different world for sure!!! I work in a store and see this horrible behavior on a daily basis. The other day I heard a little girl of maybe 7 tell her mother to "f" off.... the mother said " just for that your not going to play on the computer tonite" I would have dragged her into the rest room and swatted her behind and fed her a taste of soap! Sounds harsh but children ARE the parents now days. It seems like people are afraid that their kids will turn them in for abuse. Excuse me? When did discipline become abuse? People are so materialistic and self centered now days it's "all about me" type of attitude and it shows! I really do not look forward to these kids running our country let alone anything else. Pretty sad isn't it?

It's true .. I'm 18 and it astounds me that everyone is so rude. The lack of sleep, coffee and the need for everything to be 'express' is my theory. In today's society, we live a 30 hour day and every thing's automated - no wonder we our etiquette skills are rusty. In my opinion we're not more selfish or greedy but lack empathy.

I think it has gone off as you have said. People these days are very selfish irresspective of age, gender and so forth. Those were the old days when people used to lot of respect among each other and especially to women.

It hasn't completely died out. My husband and I are teaching our 2 sons, ages 11 (who is developmentally delayed) and 10 to have manners and consideration. They say "please" and "thank you" as well as opening doors for people. They need a little prompting once in a while but they are doing very well and seem to enjoy it. We're also teaching them how to behave in public. We've received a few compliments from people, especially in restaurants, about how well behaved and quiet our children are.

Yes it shocks me how people are now days. I grew up in a small town and we had a horse and buggy... Even now, I would never walk in front of my mother (we were raised to walk behind her)
Children don't respect their parents anymore. Things started to slide downhill when they made it wrong to spank children and took corporal punishment out of schools.

it's disgusting isn't it...it blows my mind that people have such disrespect not only for other people, but themselves...my mother still clips me if I don't say thank you for everything and I'm 29...and it's not a bad thing...

People do not teach their kids manners anymore. Plus, kids get everything handed to them on silver platters. There is NO reason an eight year old should have their own cell phone. I have taught my children at early ages PLEASE and Thankyou.. They use them too. I get compliments on what polite children I have. Teach them, and they will learn.

There are some who don't and some who do say it. My two youngest are 4 and 6 and they say please and thank you without even thinking about it. Including to each other, most of the time, they are human and still learning so of course they have those moments of but I want it or it's mine.

Please read the following:
My niece and nephew were taught to use manners. My nephew holds doors open for all the women in his life because that is what his father modeled. Parents being actual role-models and being aware of it seems to be where things fall short.
Thank you for reading.
