Four lanes of traffic and the guy in the left lane is going the slowest. Why do people do this? Why do people refuse to allow others to pass? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a study that showed the average commute in a large city would be reduced by 15 minutes if people would allow others to pass. The study also showed that slow drivers in the left lane had an increased likelihood of being involved in traffic accidents.

I think it's more of that "oblivious people" disease that's spreading like wildfire. And isn't "slower traffic keep right" kind of a driving rule anyway? It seems like that was on the driving test.
Of course, it's NEVER enforced, and it'd a DAILY frustration going to and from work. (And have you noticed, those too-slow drivers in the wrong lane are frequently on a cell phone?)

Its one of the most annoying things in all of driving. And you are correct that traffic would flow much smoother if this was avoided. I think people do it because they are inconsiderate pri-ks. And Some people just think if they are going 5 over the speed limit they are daredevils and should be in the left lane. Probably one or the other.

I don't know . . . I do know that it is better not to let it get under your skin. Next year I will finish my 5th and final year in the house for unlawful wounding . . . all because I got mad at someone who would not let me pass. I was running late to work and my boss told me that I would be fired if I was late again. Some prick would not let me pass . . . I was looking to change lanes when this guy jammed his brakes causing me to hit his car. When we got out, words were exchanged . . . and I hit him with a small pipe I had in my truck. Now he walks funny and I will have to work in bad jobs for the rest of my life.

This is the definition of the left lane dick (LLD). These self-righteous automobile operators take it upon themselves to impose what they feel should be the appropriate speed limit. They endeavor to utilize their vehicles as moving road blocks, to prevent others from traveling "too fast". In the course of their actions, they cause numerous incidents, including but not limited to: tailgating, flashing of lights, flashing of birds, swerving, rapid switching of lanes, the cutting off of drivers, road rage, increased traffic, and increased probability of accidents.

I can't stand LLD's

I agree with Motorpsycho....blatant disregard for others. They are usually only out for themselves. I usually hit their right rear which causes them to lose it and wreck into the center median. It's really a cool maneuver.
