A woman I supervise is leaving her position in a few weeks. over a year ago I lent her a book that while I haven't needed it in a year is a book I enjoy having for a reference. There is a lot of disrespect from the staff for the supervisors (myself included) I'd really like to get my book back how do I ask for it without seeming rude.

Nicely ask her for your book. Use the word "please". Let her know that it is something you value. Tell her that you need it back before she leaves.

Keep reminding her every few days.

Let her supervisor and your supervisor know about this issue.

You might have to buy your self a new book. Sorry. If she doesn't give it to you can you dock her pay for it? Take it up with your pay roll department! Why should you lose out because she can't understand what the word borrow means?

Just approach her and ask directly, but politely, for the book back. Explain that it is an important book and you would appreciate getting it back before she leaves. I hope you have a witness who can verify that you lent her the book because she might deny ever having possession of it. I hope she is honest! Good luck!!!

It might be easier to just buy a new book, and it would save you alot of anger if you get the book back in less than pristine condition. I never lend out my books anymore unless I've known the person for a very long time. My books mean too much to me, and most of them have sentimental value as they were gifts from friends/family/relatives. Especially my H.P. Lovecraft books. If I even see my boyfriend eyeing those I get protective.

Hi! Hey, do you remember that book I lent you? If not then tell the title, if she does, then do this------>
Yeah, that one. Could you please give it back before you leave? Yeah I know I haven't asked for it back in a year, but its a really good for reference. Please? I would like it back as soon as possible. Say tomorrow or maybe Monday ( if its a Friday). thats all.
Have a good day. Leave with a smile.

If she has your book for over a year, its not rude to ask it back, its rude of her to keep it this long. she most likely just forgot about it. Just ask it back in a casual, polite way, maybe tell her someone else you know wants to borrow it. Good luck!

If it's a work-related book, she shouldn't be taking it with her. However, what did you say when you gave it to her?

I would just send her an email, if you're uncomfortable asking her in person, and say just that - you enjoy having it for a reference, and you'd like to have it back.

Good luck :)

Ask if she's finished with it and tell her someone else has requested to borrow it from you. Take it home and bring it back after she's left her job.

If you don't get it back in the next few days ask her again. I'm sure she'll get the hint.

Just ask her nicely and politely, preferably when you both are alone. You can subtly get to it or just drop a hint.

Most people don't mind it as long as you're not rude to begin with. If she reacts and gets defensive, then it's not your fault.

Just say you'd like to have your book back before she leaves. You don't need to add anything to it. Do it soon before she packs everything up and tells you she can't find it.
