hehehe, nice hall/hell change! And yes it annoys me too. Especially if I'm asleep and they keep banging on the door for 10 minutes!! It's just downright rude!

I agree it is very rude to show up at someone's house unexpectedly. Everyone deserves a chance to put their best foot forward and a little advance warning of a visit can help them do that. I don't even visit my family members without calling ahead first. It is a good habit to get into.

I think it's incredibly rude. My mother-in-law was famous for this, and she always showed up at the most inconvenient times. I know she didn't do that on purpose, but that's usually how it worked out. One night, she stopped by at 10:30 p.m. Talk about rude and inconsiderate! When this happened, my husband and I were obviously upset about it, and made it known. We weren't disrespectful to her, but it was apparent (by the looks on our face when we opened the door, if nothing else) that it was a bad time for her to show up. She actually had the nerve to cop an attitude and storm off.

its very rude to 'pop' in unexpected. You should always at least call before showing up to someone's house. You never know when they might be having company over or a special occasion. I guess the only time its not exceptionally rude is when someone gives you an open invite to 'drop by anytime'. You should still call first.

I just answer the door and say... "Sorry, you should have called. We're leaving for Aruba in 5 minutes." Bottom line is... I don't even answer the door if I'm not expecting someone. My friends know this and never show up unexpectedly.

I never let them in, I hold my big dog back by the collar and act like I am struggling to hold him back and tell them to go. I absolutely can't stand it. I have even done this to my mother in law.
I have a door on the side of my house that my daughter's friends all use, The dog dances there, and all is well. My friends use that door too. Unwelcome guests never stand a chance....

Yes..it drives me crazy! I like to know if my doorbell is going to ring so I can be ready for it and not be involved in something where I have to stop because a person is too lazy to call.
If I look out the window and it's someone I don't know, I wont answer the door.

I would tend to think that someone who was evidently irritated and annoyed if I showed up on their doorstep unannounced was both rude and annoying. I think I would go elsewhere to make friends.

It depends on who and why. My suggestion is let any repeat-offenders know. I mean, I don't mind in case of emergency myself, but it's a little awkward.
What I hate is the people who call late at night, knowing that I get up at 6:00 AM every day.
