When I was going to college a few years ago I was walking onto the campus and walked by a couple of boys. One of them barked at me. I wasn't sure how to take that. Even though I just ignored him and kept on walking that just stuck in my head. I'm not an ugly woman. Not drop-dead gorgeous, but I've have had people say that I am pretty. So what's the deal with barking?

I do have a few close friends, a great girlfriend, live in an upper middle class neighborhood, however I still lack confidence in myself.

Do your tipping amounts vary between TYPES of service? (i.e. cab driver, waitress, hairdresser, etc.)

I get so tired of tipping large amounts for practically every service... I mean, I don't skimp, I'm pretty generous. I just resent having to dish out even more, after paying the initial sum of the service, PLUS tax, and then more for the tip. I mean, I know everyone needs to make a living, but it's not like *I'm* rich either...

background: my friend's father. i had met him twice both times it was very brief. wake was crowded and i was there alone and knew only my friend and, mildly, her husband. i was in and out in less than a half hour. i feel bad but i really didn't know what to do with myself. how long should i have stayed? as you can tell, i'm pretty anti-social. i didn't want to cling to my friend, as she had other things to preoccupy herself with. should i have stayed longer?

I am non-Jewish mother wonderig if today's Jewish cmmunities follow any of the old betrothal rituals as are mentioned in the Old Testament. Is there such a thing as a symbolic "bride price" or anything a non-Jewish male should know before he proposes?

I drive a car with a power convertible top. What is the ettiquete for removing said top? Is it only when you leave the spot you were just parked in? I take it down sometimes at stoplights, and people look at me funny. The other day I saw a lady removing hers on the side of the freeway.

If you don't like the question please DON'T ANSWER IT!

My bank and my phone/internet service providers make me scroll through an automated voice prompt for what seems like forever, and when I do finally get a rep on the phone it feels as if they are reading from a script.

Even though they aren't verbalizing it, I feel as if they are telling me....."Yep, we screwed ya! Not gonna fix it. Deal with it!"

Only what comes out is, " Thank you. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?"

Besides blurting out something that rhymes with 'duck stew,' or ramming the phone up against the wall, do y'all have any clever ways of responding to rude service reps?

I read an article stating that "on the average" life expectancy is around 70 years. I multiplied that by 365-days in a year- deducted my age and considered other variables such as lifestyle, stresslevel etc... i figure I've got maybe 8000 days to live! If im lucky enough to live a full life. how about you?

knowledge is power, if you're hungry for the illusion of that kind of power.

I've noticed that there are a number of individuals, who will post gobs and gobs of text from an unknown source, simply because they can not articulate an answer in their own words.

Also there are some people who think that just dropping in a link to another site that may or may not have the answer is the solution to the question.

Are these people just lazy or naive?

Why is it so difficult, to post an answer in your own words as you might interpet your sources of information. If you're right and your reply makes sense, then you may get the 10 point reward.

If you're just going to pollute with gobs of pointless text or useless links that only distract me from my question, especially if they are phony links with nothing to do at all with my question. Why even bother replying to a question. Just type yes or no and move on, if you have to.

I am talking about Americans (so I don't think it's cultural). I think it's rude. I don't get upset. The change just goes on the counter. And no smart remarks about a minimum wage job. I am a manager in an industry that is commission-based. My reps make 50k+/year. So this is not coming from a bitter and underpaid person.

It's customary to leave at least 15-20% tip when one dines out (though if I take just tea for $0.90 I would leave 1 dollar); what about other services?

When I go to take care of myself I always feel unconfident leaving tips: I'm not sure that's enough.

Let's say when one blowdries my hair - it's $20-25 at the checkout but there are some people: shampoo girl, hair-dresser. What's the minimum not to look greedy and not to overspend? The thing is once you gave him some money (e.g.$7) you can't go less: you appreciated his job and wanna the same effect. But in the meanwhile I see some women that give 1-2 dollars and they smile - so it must be fine

Recently I was told not to tip the owner of the saloon - coz he gets the full amount. How to deal with it if I always used to tip'em?

The same situation with cab/car service. In case you order a cab and it's sooo late - would u tip the driver anyway?

Does any percentage exist?

Thank you

I went to Kmart and bought a ring on sale for $105 bucks. I had the ring 23 days and the stone fell out. I bought the extended service plan for 7.99 because the cashier said it covers everything including a replacement of the stone if lost. Store policy was return to store in under 30 days. Customer Service Rep got the Manager. The Manager was rude and said she wouldn't replace it because the stone was missing. I told her that I didn't have it that long, it's obviously defective and she should replace it or give me a refund. After much discussion back and forth, I got her to give me a refund after threatening to contact Corporate Headquaters about the way she was treating me. I had the receipt and was following the guidelines. She gave me a refund for the Ring but not the Service Plan. Is this fair? She said I just used it. I didn't use the service plan the store called it to find out if they should accept the ring back. Shouldn't they have refunded the service plan too?
