we have a ground flr apartment we pay $1200/mt for. our neighbor on the 3rd floor demanded that we stop smoking in our patio because he is allergic to tobacco smoke. This 3 days after we moved in. We now smoke 8 yrds from our patio and hard by the dumpster just to accomdate them - but smoke somehow still makes it up there to their windows (?!!!). They've embraked upon a scandal-mongering campaign. 3 wks ago, a firetruck came and parked right infront of our patio... seems someone called them that there's a fire in our vicinity. We were amazed; the firemen went away. Last night, four police cars descended upon us - seems someone reported --- what? domestic violence i suppose becasue one of the cops - a lady - asked to see if there were bruises on me. And! the most suspicious thing of all - our upstairs neughbor was lurking by our patio not 5 minuted before the cops arrived - he was expecting them, right? Soenthing is going on... can anyone help me with this?

In July the Reader's Digest printed an article on it. Does helping someone pick up papers, holding the door open for those behind or thanking people constitute politeness. Have you witness any other instances of politeness or done something nice for others? Tell all.

I was raised to say please and thank you to EVERYONE, look behind when I walk through a door to make sure that I don't drop it on anyone, get out of my seat when a more deserving person needed it, be respectful to adults and whole host of other things that I won't bore you with....

So why is it that so many people today, young and old, just don't seem to care anymore?

If you don’t want to answer, fine! Don’t b*tch or jerk around as if you’re an all knowing god! Now I know why you are unhappy, you are such a pity because of your rusty attitude.

Ok guys, I need your help again.
I just started college (YAY!!!) as a freshman, and I've been living in the dorms for 3 nights with my new roomate. She's really nice, I can tell we won't be best friends, but we get along alright.
However, as you can tell by the question... there's an issue.
She snores, and she knows she snores, but I don't think she realises how much, or how loud it is.
So I was up until 4 AM last night, and 5 the night before because I couldn't get to sleep (because of the racket across from me) and once again she's keeping me awake (it's 1:12 here and I'M EXHAUSTED!!!!).
So, I really like her, but I don't know what to do...
any advice?

Yes ladies, if you are "well endowed" both going and coming, any, Red Blooded, American male is going to notice. But when they do notice your "physical gifts" and compliment you on them (and I'm talking about your gifts below your neck), do you take offense or do you consider it a compliment? Why or why not?

Can't people be more civil to one another. Let's face it. This is a very diverse world we live in. Everybody's got their own points of view and their own belief systems but how about a little more respect and tolerance for the next person. I'm not saying not to express how you feel vehemently and with conviction and not to tell the other person that he or she is wrong if that is what you believe but do we have to call each other ugly names and revile each other's characters. I am putting this question into etiquette because I think it has to do with how we treat others. I am speaking simply here of respect and rudeness.

I mean the ones at the end of the checkstand, if they don't take them to your car, they just bag them? If so, how much?

(I ask embarrasingly because I've never done it and my parent's didn't either, that I know of.)

Love my sister - and this is a big milestone. I live out of state and don't know what I can do special for her. Thought about getting tickets for us to go to Vegas (just the girls for a long weekend or something) - but I don't think that is her scene. She's married (so am I) and we have jobs, families and commitments... Looking for some good, friendly suggestions! I just don't want this to be just another birthday... needs to be special. Thanks! :)

When I see many women celebrities on TV, like on David Letterman or Jay Leno, especially the ones who wear nice dresses, most of them sit down with their legs crossed. I don't know why they sit like that. If you ladies do sit like that, can you explain why do sit that? It's that almost every women have a habit of how they sit.

I am not asking you to give your names, but your family background would be of interest. I believe that Spanish people can have many names, but is this for the nobility?
Forgive me if this sounds rude; I am interested.
My names are Catriona Isobel Rose and I am of Cornish/ Celtic stock. I tend to only use Rose for convenience sake.
Kind regards, Rose P.
