It depends on the class of the restaurant. I would say that in a moderately priced restaurant, that it wouldn't be rude.. although they might consider it to be ( but only because they're losing that business, most people would pick a wine that was close to their preferred choice) , If it were a higher priced, fancy restaurant, I would consider it rude. Only because you're not going there JUST for the wine, you're going there for the dining experience.. and by brining your own bottle of wine, you're telling people that the only thing that matters to you is the wine..

In England you pay 'corkage' of (say 5-50 pounds per bottle you bring your self)...any good restuarant should let you do this without going schitz on you...you gotta prove it's a good wine and theirs a reason for drinking it though, you know how snotty restuarant managers can be...

call the resturaunt ahead of time and ask...many will let you bring your own wine but they will charge you a "corkage fee" usually around 10 to 15 dollars...the waiter will uncork and serve the wine you brought just as he would ,if you wou have purchased the wine from the resturauntl

its not considered rude in the slightest!
you are the `host` of the people you are dining with, and if you want them to taste/enjoy the wine you are offering - there isnt anything wrong with that - unless of course the restaurant is not BYO

I think it's rude, and I think most restaurants won't let you do that anyway. Maybe you should call the owner/manager and at least ask first.

If you're a regular customer, why not ask them to carry it?
