Bad weather, dull people, high prices, and a feeling of it all just being too much bother.

It all depends on where you are and what you expect. They do get a lot of rain, the prices are much higher for most items than in the US and there are some things you would have to get use to, like driving on the other side. If you understand and learn about where you are going then you should be fine. The food there is good, they have the same kinds of food as they have in US supermarkets so don't worry about the food.
I spent only one week in the UK and really enjoyed it, we were in the country so there were not that many people and the roads were not that crouded, but in London and surrounding it can be very crouded.

It's as good or as bad as you want it to be. Whether a place is good or not to a large extent is in our own perception. Some of the things mentioned in the other answers are right though. Weather --- generally cool and sometimes a bit gloomy. Summer is beautiful. Prices of most things --- very high, almost unaffordable if you are an average student from a developing country. Finding your way --- quite easy as maps are easily available and you could search for almost any streets in the UK on the Internet. You don't have to worry about getting lost. Food to cook at home and eating out --- pricey and not as good as in other European countries but pub grub is improving all the time. Cakes and biscuits --- too sweet. Vegetables --- limited choice. TV --- used to be of very high quality but standard has fallen in recent years with trashy chat shows/reality shows. Public transport --- very expensive and sometimes not reliable. Petrol price --- very high. Banking service --- expensive but generally satisfactory. Clothes --- more expensive than Asia or North America but quality is reliable and style is good (not frumpy like the old image of British women) Living environment --- safe and quiet in most middle-class towns and villages. If you can afford higher rent, choose somewhere decent to live. Avoid places with a lot of rundown houses and graffiti. People --- Brits are polite and civilized people but don't expect to make a lot of friends easily. Making good friends is possible but it takes time. Observe social codes and etiquettes here (like queuing for everything, being tolerant and polite, respecting others' privacy and not talking loudly in public) and you'll earn their respect.

Britian is the best country in the world. We've got good education, health care and social system.
Our cops dont carry guns because they dont need them (and hopefully they never will)
It is the most accepting, multicultural, fair country going which respects education and human rights.
Dont be put off by the negative comments. Those people are lucky enough to be living in a country where they earn enough money, are educated and enjoy free speech to use the internet for a start!!
This country is being inundated by immigrants at the moment because people want a slice of all the good things britain can offer.
Britain has a lively, evolving social, music and clubbing scene, loads of historical sites of interest, the best universities in the world, beautiful countryside.... the lists go on. Whatever floats your boat, you can find it.
As for those who says it always rains.... are you forgetting how unbearably HOT its been during the summer????

Come over and visit and make your own mind up. Travel and experience is the best thing you can do in life... i backpacked the world for two years and would not have changed what i did.

If you are good looking and have a great personality then life here is the same here as everywhere else, especially if you come to my house. However in reality the UK is dull, ignorant and nonchalant(sp?). However like I said if you are good looking and have a great personality then the world is your oyster.

The UK - Although gloomy weather - is a very comfortable place to live.
