I'd go talk to them, unless they're acting hostile from the start. In my experience, people don't hold grudges that long. In all likelihood, they'll be just as happy to stay away from the subject of the fight as you are.

Do you want to make up or not?
If you don't want this person back in your life, don't be rude be vague. Act like you have slight amnesia and that you can't quite remember everything. Smile, be polite. Politely acknowledge the friend if you must, with a smile, but other than that stay away from the friend. If it is a sit down dinner affair - maybe pull the host aside and make sure that you are not seated near each other.
The host of the party does not deserve to have their party disrupted. Think of them and be gracious.
If you want the person back in your life then go up and talk to them politely and apologize for your part in the fight. They may or may not accept it. If they dont then revert back to my earlier advice. If they do then have a good time the rest of the night.

Wear a mask and hold the their eyes behind the person and say "guess who". When the person turns around say it again. You can make a game out of it (or have a nice conversation). Be natural under the mask. they'll have no idea who it is though. Perhaps they'll find out. Then finally surprise the person by taking off the mask or let the person take it off you. LOL wouldn't that be awsome!!!

be civil but cool and don't spoil the party for your hosts. If you had that big a fight with them would you really want to resurrect the friendship? You didn't just after the fight so it's probably not worth it now

Let bygones be bygones! After all, it's in the 'past'. Be casual, strike up a conversation, hopefully things will be back to normal. Better to have another friend than an enemy :-)

I would act naturally.
i will talk to him as usually i talk to my friends.Don't show how you feel. make him curious.
If you can, try to make a good impression.show it that you are different from your past. You are much better person now. It will make him to consider your appearance.
