What I'm looking for are beliefs that people outside your religion/denomination/movement have about your religion, that members of your religion know aren't true.

I'll go first:

"Judaism and Christianity are just alike, except Jews don't believe in Jesus"

2007-11-05 04:23:05 · 39 answers · asked by Cathy 6 in Religion & Spirituality

Protestants owe their "heritage" to reformers like Martin Luther, who said:
"It is, then, fundamentally necessary and wholesome for Christians to know that God foreknows nothing contingently, but that He foresees, purposes, and does all things according to His own immutable, eternal and infallible will. This bombshell knocks 'free-will' flat, and utterly shatters it"
(Bondage of the Will, Luther's magnum opus)

Should "Protestants" who don't believe this return to Catholicism?

Or should they slip down their slippery slope from arminianism into universalism, or become a "newager", pantheist, or polytheist?

Or perhaps such "Christians" should simply reject Christianity all together and become deists, like Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine ("The Age of Reason") - what do you think?

I just don't know. Maybe they should just embrace their "practical atheism" and become full-fledged atheist!

I mean if God is not sovereign, and ABSOLUTELY sovereign, then is He God?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s_hierarchy_of_needs

The link is to Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The base of the pyramid is what a person needs for basic survival, and when a person completes that level, (or so says Maslow) they can then move to the next level. Check the image in the link to see what I mean.

For those that don't consider themselves to be spiritual and/or religious, do you see anything on the pyramid that you feel you might need to address? (you don't have to say if you don't want to)

For the spiritual and/or religious: do you feel you have already met every level?

I'll explain why I asked certain groups certain questions a bit later. Thanks in advance for your answers :)

Obviously, you can look at this issue from two side: 1) He is being treated unfairly (in terms of media criticism) because his phone conversation with his son was a private family matter; or 2) He is being treated fairly (again, in terms of criticism) because his language was so offensive. What are your thoughts?

In my family, we give each other lists of the things we want, and often those things are gift certificates, so that we can be sure to get exactly what we want and to make the process as easy as possible on the gift-giver.

My wife says that that's not the spirit of Christmas, that you're supposed to figure out what would be a good gift for someone. It's OK to ask for sizes and such, but she thinks that the thought and effort that go into the gift is what is important. You should give people things you want them to have.

Most importantly, she thinks most people think the way she does. I think most people have started being more practical and try to help each other out. What do most people do?

By "most people", of course, I mean "most people who celebrate Christmas".

I am needing some gospel songs for church that would be easy to sing w/out musical accompaniment or very little (i believed i spelled that wrong). We have a small choir of maybe 10 people. If you could name me a good website to look any up or type the songs (if short enough) I would really appreciate the help.

JOKES
Baby, You're a Rich Man

An eighteen-year-old girl tells her mom that she has missed her period
for two months. Very worried, the mother goes to the drugstore and buys
a pregnancy kit. The test result shows that the girl is pregnant.

Shouting, cursing, crying, the mother says, "Who was the pig that did
this to you? I want to know!"

The girl picks up the phone and makes a call.

Half an hour later a Ferrari stops in front of their house, a mature and
distinguished man with gray hair and impeccably dressed in a very
expensive suit steps out of it and enters the house.

He sits in the living room with the father, the mother and the girl, and
tells them, "Good morning, your daughter has informed me of the problem.
However, I can't marry her because of my personal family situation, but
I'll take charge.

If a girl is born I will bequeath her 2 retail stores, a townhouse, a
beach villa and a $1,000,000 bank account.

If a boy is born, my legacy will be a couple of factories and a
$2,000,000 bank account.

If it is twins, a factory and $1,000,000 each. However, if there is a
miscarriage, what do you suggest I do?"

At this point, the father, who had remained silent, places a hand firmly
on the man's shoulder and tells him, "You'll try again!"

Who's words had and have impact of every person who has ever lived and died? other than *Jesus Christ* who said *MY WORDS WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN*

Luke 21:33, Jesus said that regardless of what happens to the world, His words will never be forgotten. Here we are 2000 years later and the words of Jesus are all around us: Christianity has spread to people around the world and the Bible is the world's most circulated book.
