King Richard (The Lionhearted) ruled while two popes reigned.

Clement III 1187-1191
Celestine III 1191-1198

Gregory VIII ruled before Clement III, and Innocent III ruled after Celestine III, so Robin Hood .. aka .. Robin of Locksley could have known all 4 popes.

steve is right ... the church went through the popes rather quickly back then

Robin Hood is pretty much regarded as a fictional person who was at odds with the then Prince John of England who was brother to King Richard 1st (1157- 1199).

This would make the then Pope Alexander III (1159-1181).

Robin Hood was not a person. It was a title, like general or captain. History indicates there were quite a few robin hoods, all in the general area of Sherwood. If robin hood was one man then he lived for some 300 years, which is impossible.

Explain this to whoever gave you this assignment.
