This website is a joke, right?

http://www.landoverbaptist.org/

It has to be, it's so over the top. It is so clearly a parody of extreme Evangelical Fundamentalist Christianity. And yet, I see Evangelical Fundamentalist Christians here (not all Christians, mind you, just the EFC's) posting articles from this website to prove their points. Don't they realize those articles were written to mock them? The website is damn funny, for sure, but then the articles get taken seriously and reposted to "prove" how evil Yoga, Harry Potter, Wicca, or long hair on men is.

So, I guess my real question is this -- could this website be a joke that's backfiring?

I just received a multi-forwarded email, warning parents away from bringing their children to see the movie, "The Golden Compass", because the original book was written by an atheist & because the book series has anti-religious themes. The movie, itself, apparently does not have overt anti-religious themes, but they are afraid that the movie will trick parents into buying the books for their children and exposing them to information & ideas that question their parent's religious beliefs.

Email discussed here: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/religion/a/golden_compass.htm & here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp

If you are raising your children in a particular religion, do you shield them from ideas that question that religion? Do you discuss them & teach your children why you are right? Do you discuss them & let your children decide what's right for themselves?

ok just thought about this, i know im not the first one to think of it.. but just maybe consider it and tell me if its sorta reasonable or something..

when you die you go into a dream.. just like the ones you have at night except much longer (forever)

if you lived your life right, and had good memories.. the dream you have will be pleasent (like heaven, you could say)

if you had a bad life and did all the wrong things.. your afterlife would be a nightmare (like hell) doomed forever in your worst nightmare of memories and so on..

just a "what if" what do you think

Here is an ACTUAL quote from someone on this very board;
"Jesus, Who created the heavens and the earth out of nothing, can suspend or change the laws of physics or biology whenever He wants."

Um, I beg your pardon? If something is not constrained by the laws of nature, then they are, by definition, non-existent.
Matter cannot be "created" out of nothing. That is an irrefutable fact. Anyone who still believes this sort of patent nonsense is suffering from the same childish delusions that lead children to believe that Santa can come down a chimney with a never ending bag of toys every Xmas.
Honestly people, grow up please. My kids figgured out that Santa wasn't real by the time they were 7. Why can't you?

I hear a lot of parents and kids complaining about having to wear uniforms to school, saying it's their right to wear whatever they want to school etc etc.

I spend most of my school yrs wearing uniforms and I never though it violated my rights :)

So why make a big deal about it?

If so, then why did Job - a man who "...was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil. [Job 1:1]" - rebuke his wife in the midst of his difficulties and say, "...Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity? [Job 2:10]"
Couple this with Deut. 32:39, and I wonder if we have such a misconception of God's nature, that when adversities come in our lives we immediately wonder why God is not in control.
What are your thoughts?

It didn't seem like "white guilt". (Just thought I'd mention that, because I'm sure someone else will.) They acted like they were REALLY PISSED (like it was far more than "white guilt").

This is what happened....

My husband and I went to a party Saturday night (at one of hubby's cousin's house in Richmond, VA). Much of the family was there who we haven't seen in LONG time. While there, we discovered that a few of his cousins had married white women and that the mother of four of his cousins had married a white man. No biggie... They seemed cool. Everything was going great until we all started making race-related jokes.

One of hubby's cousins wanted to take a group picture of a bunch of the guys. So anyway, they were making jokes about it being too dark to take photos of black people. My husband's brother made a joke about Panasonic making the camera "too eff'd up to take pictures of black folk in the dark" and then said, "yea, we need to call the NAACP on'em."

Where do you get your morals from? I'm not saying that you need to have a religion to have morals, I don't, I'm just curious to know where you learned what is right and wrong?

Advance Merry Christmas to all....

I´m not a believer in religion. Having said that, I´ve been to church many times in the UK for weddings and funerals. I found the experience to be one of despair. The church was invariably cold, dull and in many cases it was a boring experience. However, I was recently invited to go to someone´s communion in a Catholic church in rural Spain. The experience in that church was uplifting. The whole time I was there I felt relaxed. People came and go as they pleased. Some answered mobile phones and others chatted through the communion. The one thing that would make me go again was instead of organ music they had guitars playing. Even some traditional hymns sounded so much more inviting. I could have stayed there all day just listening to the music. The church was packed full of people. When I´ve been in the UK churches seem a much stiffer occasion and their appears to be dwindling membership. Why can´t the UK adopt the same as rural Spain. Have a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

Only the catatonic could envision heaven as a paradise. An eternity with no wrongs to right, no people to help, no problems to overcome.....forever and ever.

I imagine hoards of immortals desperately seeking suicide after the frist billion years of bliss.

Will there be any challenges in heaven to stimulate the mind and spirit?

Thanks

Why do some people believe that Charles Darwin recanted his theory of evolution on his death bed? There is ZERO credible evidence to support this.

Some girl who I work with told me that this was true, and I asked her where she found that out and she told me at her church. I did some research and I can not find any resources supporting this that are not religiously based. I guess some religious groups are getting very desperate in their attempt to stiffle the truth. I thought religious people weren't supposed to lie? Or is it only okay to lie when its for Jesus?
