If G-d wanted a really good test to see if people actually wanted to be a Jew...can you think of anything better?

C'mon...give us a little credit for brains here.

Besides, Jewish women want 10% off everything!

(Yes I am Jewish, so I can get away with jokes like these)

If you check the old testiment, it was a sign among the Jews, God's chosen people. It isn't necessary today. Of course, jewish people still practice it, but the new testement covenant tells us that there is a circumcision made without hands- A cutting away of the old.

Only Hebrews were required to do it NOT Gentiles. It is not part of the Noahide Laws.

ADD: During the many ongoing wars between the Hebrews, the Philistines, and the other couple dozens of tribes fighting petty land wars many of them collected foreskins as proof of a kill.
The Hebrews not having foreskins forced the enemy to have to work harder to get a trophy.

Circumcision began in arid, desert regions where cleanliness was difficult to maintain. To help keep infections from forming on a mans member, they circumcised him at birth. It was not a covenant with God, it isn't barbaric when you think of the pain they likely saved themselves from going through (no antibiotics back then people).
Now, in todays world, where more people have access to water, it is mostly unnecessary, however it has helped to stave the spread of HIV somewhat in Africa.

circumcision is only a symbol as like a ring is a symbol in marriage but the ring does not define the essence of the marriage.

circumcision was done for cleansliness purposes...a way to stave off disease. everything that God asked them to do in the book of leviticus was for our health...not just for spiritual obedience. anything God has told us to do was always for our benefit.

now...does that mean if you are not circumcised you are not accepted by God? by no means at all.

baptism is the same way....we should get baptized if possible...but it is a symbol of our loyalty...our joining in union with Christ. It does not change our hearts.

so...you only do these things as an expression of love and devotion to God...if you are not able to do them...God knows what is in your heart and He does not condemn you.

LOL, WHY WOMEN? lol
Actually, it is a weapon that was supposed to be kept secret. By circumcision the POPULATION of Abraham's children would grow larger and faster than all others, eventually over taking them. Then they could have been killed off. But the word got out because the Israylites started being rebels and passing on information.??

circumcision is a jewish and muslim tradition that is generally not followed by christians except for medical reasons. It has little to do with creation but you would need to ask someone of this faith the reasoning behind it

Well, the whole circumcision thing was intended for the children of Isreal in the ancient times so everyone knew they were from there; the children of God. Nothing more.

Never thought about it that way. But I did circumcise my son. Why? Purely for health reasons. It is easier to keep clean down there (from what I read). plus, honestly, most people are in the US. I didnt want him to have to face any stigma from either the "locker room' BS or from some girl in the future. Maybe thats silly, but whatever. Plus, I knew a guy that got it done when he was in his 20's. He said it really hurt. And I have no doubt of that.
