This website is a joke, right?

http://www.landoverbaptist.org/

It has to be, it's so over the top. It is so clearly a parody of extreme Evangelical Fundamentalist Christianity. And yet, I see Evangelical Fundamentalist Christians here (not all Christians, mind you, just the EFC's) posting articles from this website to prove their points. Don't they realize those articles were written to mock them? The website is damn funny, for sure, but then the articles get taken seriously and reposted to "prove" how evil Yoga, Harry Potter, Wicca, or long hair on men is.

So, I guess my real question is this -- could this website be a joke that's backfiring?

I've never seen an EFC as you call them do that, but I've seen them cite statistics from the Onion.

Some EFCs are OBVIOUSLY not all there when it comes to literacy.

Yes, it was supposed to be a mockery of of Fundamentalist Christian sects. However many who are already mentally challenged in some way might take it seriously. Check the "about Landoverbaptist.org" in the Terms of Service Agreement. Right in the Preface it says about a thrid of the way down:

"The Landover Baptist Church is a complete work of fiction. It is a satire/parody. "

Yes, the site provides parodies about various beliefs. The letters section show a lot of rage from people who are angered by the articles. So, joke or no joke, the site certainly seems to have an effect.

That just made my day.

Thanks for the link.

I guess you will always find illogical people who cannot grasp irony, clinging on to statements they don't understand to bolster their faith.

Just think about how many times you have read questions from Christians claiming that Einstein believed in God.

It is so obviously meant to be a joke.
Apparently though, there are some not so quick people that will think it's for real.
If the intended purpose was to ridicule, then I would say it is working.
No thinking person would accept any of this for truth though.

That was a riot. I love the Christmas cards with Jesus: "Love me or Burn" and "Happy Birthday Baby Jesus and please don't send me to hell". Great parody of fundamentalism. That there are people too lame to realize this is a parody only makes it even richer although somewhat more scary.

I love it, I think it's hilarious. They do not spare anyone.

I remember they even did a piece on my favorite first person shooter video game, Unreal Tournament.

It was classic!
