A bunch. A German bible scholar (Wellhausen?) was the first to show how it is a compilation of 3 different texts that all pretty much told the same story. That's why there are 2 different accounts of the creation of Adam and Eve and 2 different sets of ten commandments in Exodus and Deuteronomy.
What is now Genesis was put together over 3 centuries, from around the 8th century BC to the 5th.
You're right: Moses would've gotten some severe writers' cramp if he had had to write out all that stuff himself.

Thanks...after reading the bible and the Old and New Testament...this question and the answers is why I am so glad I got to read the Quran...One Creator One Messenger never altered not one word. How many different bibles are out there anyway? From Adam Abraham Jesus and Mohammad Peace be unto them...they are all in The Holy Quran. Wow one person said a bunch. This is why we believe in the texts Moses and the Exodus and New Testament but there were too many mistakes by the hand of man. You guys are confused. It's all consolidated in one book . The Holy Quran...because of this reason.

There is good reason to believe Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible alone except about his death.
Genesis still gives the most believable account of creation. Also there is good reason to believe Noah's flood happened as was written down.Since the flood we have high mountains and deeper and larger oceans. Before the flood the worldwide climate was warm even in the polar regeons. There is good reason to believe that fossil fields, oil fields and coalfields are a result of the flood. There is a lot more proof for this than for evolution and its tremendous periods of time.

It is believed that are at least two or more sources. You can easily see this with how the writing style changes from chapter to chapter.
In some you have summaries and others you have details.
They don't always jive either.
While Moses may have compiled all the info available to him, it is evident to see that there was a few sources.

2, God and Moses. God dictated, Moses wrote.
If you cant believe it, then don't but don't try to pick and chose, it does not work that way. Regardless of what a scholer 3000 years after the fact thinks. He wan't there, now was he?

How many people wrote the book of genesis?
Several idiots, a dozen morons, twenty ill-informed people of low-intelligence, ten fairy-story tellers, two escaped lunatics, a bloke named Jesus who was misguided and thought he was the son of a non-existent god, his mom, Mary and her sister, her husband, Joseph, Old uncle Tom Cobley an` all, Old Uncle Tom Cobley an` all.

maximum solutions above are impressive, yet to intricate: whilst Moses became on the mountain the place God gave him the ten commandments God additionally defined to him the history of the worldwide, that's the place we get the 1st 5 books of the Bible from. evidence of it extremely is contained in the actuality that Moses explains that God rested on the seventh day and thanks to this guy would desire to take a seat down back on the seventh day and save it holy.
