I recently sent out our wedding thank you notes, and my husband has informed me that his mother is "hurt" because I just wrote "Mom and Dad, ..." and not "DEAR Mom & Dad, ..." in their thank you note. I am one who believes in writing thank you notes, and I always make sure the ones I write are personal and heartfelt. Was it wrong of me to not use the word, "Dear" in the salutation? To me, this seems like my mother-in-law is nitpicking to find something wrong with what I did. Help!
Thanks :)

Those of you that believe that you get what you deserve and that god gives you only what you could handle, what could an 8 year old little girl do that deserves to get her raped and how do you think that she got what she could handle? This is exactly why I am an atheist today.

Bruce R. McKonkie, seemed to be a valid and true author as well as an apostle, is His work/book still a valid source of inspiration and true to the mormon Creed of Joseph Smith?
After he died i heard a rumor that he died because he was not worthy, "taken - by the will of the LORD".

Okay I am gonna host an award for the "stupidest rule from a religion". So here are the nominees

1)Catholics(me, not that I take it that seriously if at all)-for prohibiting the use of condoms and birth control pills
2)Mormons-for not being able to drink coffee or anything with caffeine in it
3)Jehovas' Witnesses-for not being able to celebrate anything(even their own birthdays)
4)Muslims-for fasting and not being able to drink or eat anything for thirty days(even if theres plenty of food around)

if you wanna nominate or vote for anyone else, say who and why(gotta be a religion not me for posting this question)

Well it seems the runes have opened up to me, but I have been studying Tarot cards for alot longer, but I always seem to be turning to my runes. I feel more comfortable when I hold them, but I don't know all their meanings yet, like I do with the Tarot. I am a bit perplexed and I was wondering if anyone else has ever experinced the same thing.
Should I stop using my Tarot cards, or is there a reason for this?

There are several areas of research that can consclusively show that religious experience and communion with "higher powers" can now be attributed to purely biological function and biochemistry.

"According to this hypothesis, the God gene (VMAT2), is not an encoding for the belief in God itself but a physiological arrangement that produces the sensations associated, by some, with the presence of God or other mystic experiences, or more specifically spirituality as a state of mind."

A lot of people on here get pissed when there are Mormon questions and say to leave the Mormons alone because they are so "nice".. What gives? What does that have to do with anything?

I just started this class.. Um what does ¿Cóme te llamas? translate into exactly? I tried using online dictionaries like InterTran which didn't translate the accent mark and translated llamas to flame. I also tried the Apple SYSTRAN which wouldn't translate Cóme either to English. My teacher said that it just meant What's your name or What do you call yourself. Something like that. The point is I need a translator that translates every word. I can't get a pocket English - Spanish dictionary in this country.. I have to order it so I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

The dictionary says "good" is to be "morally excellent." Let s look at God s moral standard the Ten Commandments, and see how we do. Is God first in your life? Do you love Him with "heart, mind, soul and strength?" Have you made a god to suit yourself? Have you used His name in vain? Have you always honored your parents? Have you looked with lust and therefore committed adultery in your heart? Have you lied (including "fibs"), stolen (the value is irrelevant), or coveted other people s possessions? If you are honest, you know you will be guilty on the Day of Judgment. God, however, doesn t want to send you to Hell. Jesus Christ suffered and died on the Cross, so you could go free. That s how much God loves you. We broke God s Law, but Jesus took our punishment and died on the cross. He then rose from the grave defeating death. If you repent (turn away from all the things you know are wrong) and trust in Him, God will forgive your sins and grant you everlasting life. Begin by reading your Bible daily and then obey what you read. God will never let you down.

Someone asked a question last week if people RSVP and an overwhelming amount said "If it's an adults party, no." If you went to a party that the host was only expecting 20 people and 40 showed up how upset would you be if there was no food left or chairs to go around? Especially if you were one that did RSVP.

From what I read in the Bible, this world is a 'vale of tears', punishment for Adam & Eve's sin. The ultimate goal of life is to go to heaven in the afterlife and nothing else matters.

So, shouldn't Christians rejoice at the thought of death? If suicide wasn't a sin, wouldn't you believers WANT to joyously fling yourselves from the nearest tall building, knowing you're just a heartbeat away from an eternal Cosmic Disneyland that is infinitely better than your earthly existence? Aren't martyrdom and terminal illnesses good because they reunite you with Jesus? Isn't abortion a good thing because fetuses get an automatic trip to heaven?

Most Christians I know cling just as stubbornly to life as any atheist. The only half-decent excuse I've heard is that they'd miss their family and friends. But what if you're over the age of 50 or so and most of your family and friends are presumably in heaven waiting to see you?
