...or are there too many vested interests in having centralised, dogmatic, authoritarian, worldly, patronising religious institutions?

Within the sunni sect of te muslim faith, what is the role of the parents? I have 22 year old girl friend in egypt whose mother follows her around, won't trust her, and even won't let hr use the phone. She has no friends because of this. Is this normal?

I am 17 years old, I have been very concerned about religion, and whether I should find faith in a religion. Im always faced with, "what should i do"

I have been very interested in the following religions:
Wicca
Christianity
Judaism

and a few others...but thats just to let you know the range of things I have thought about.

The problem comes into play, when I want to believe what I am being told. I mean, a PERSON has written all religious exerpts...so I dont know who is the "right" one...I want to know that if i die, I will believing something true.

My parents aren't religious at all, and I haven't been taught about religion...so believing in a "god" is so wierd to me, I cant possibly imagine what "he/she" looks like...or whatever it is...what it looks like

Or water into wine? If the human magi were capable of doing this why can't anyone else do it? If the influence was Satan, and Satan is still an influence, once again, why can't anyone do this?

I had asked this in the subject line...Do you believe being a Naturist conflicts with your religion?... but even though I added that a Naturist is a Nudist... most people thought I was talking about Naturalists i think so thought I would ask again.

So do you believe your nudity conflicts with your religion?

TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE a.k.a LORD VOLDEMORT as Minister of Magic?!? It’s not that crazy. Remember that in “Half-Blood Prince”, Professor Slughorn expected Tom to rise to Minister of Magic within fifteen or twenty years. What do you think would happen then if Tom Marvolo Riddle took Slughorn’s advice seriously? Instead of working at Borgin & Burkes and starting creating Horcruxes, Tom decided to build his career at the Ministry while in the same time gaining followers, power, and influence? What do you think would happen to the whole Harry Potter series if things go this way? What would happen to the whole Muggle and Wizardry world? What would Albus Dumbledore do then? Would there still be any confrontation between Order of Phoenix and Death Eaters? Would Tom ever change his name into Voldemort? Would he still do his entire infamous act just like the “original” Voldemort? Would Voldemort still make Horcruxes after all?

Anybody at all...who thinks that children are more important than dogs?

You may think this an odd question...but i haven't found anybody yet who will come out and say it. Is this a UK thing?...or do people prefer dogs to children in the US as well?

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666." (Rev. 13:16-18).

Do you think High school kids would benifit from a class on all MAJOR world religions?
We preach religious tollerance but many don't know what the other religions believe. This could help them understand were the religion come from and what their beliefs are.

Some thoughts pro and con are welcome.

I was toying with the idea. Imagine if you lived in a country where eveyone had the same basic belief. Resources would then go to making life better instead of arguing but would the nations get along? What are your opinions?

I could say a person is brainwashed by religious dogma, they could say I'm brainwashed by loud rock, someone else can say were both brainwashed by the media...That argument goes nowhere. We're all brainwashed. We don't think on our own, we think with what we know.
