I think it depends on whether you accept the apology or not and if you owe the other person an apology also. If you accept the apology, then probably a note back or phone call to them to let them know that you accept it would be a good thing so you two can get back to where you where before the incident took place. I think that if you don't accept the apology, then you wouldn't need to respond and they would get the hint. Good luck!

Although it lacked the personal touch of a regular letter or having the person be humbled by doing it in person. The person indeed apologized. It is now up to you if you wish to accept this apology or not. If you want to accept the apology you can simply send back an email to that person.

If I send an apology message, I would be wondering how the person felt about it. A nice message to say that you received it and thanking them for the apology would be nice, I think.

If this person thought enough of you to apologize and you truly do accept it..by all means respond. By phone would be nice or in person (if possible). Apologies are a hard thing so ease her mind by responding. Let them know that he/she is forgiven and the issue has been squashed and make a nice gesture to go out to lunch or something....to solidify the squashing of the issue and the re-birth of your friendship!!!
Good luck!!

If you accept the apology, just email back, ''Thanks''. I would not elaborate with more words. Just say this and drop the issue.
If you do not want to accept the apology-just forget it. By not answering back, the person will know the apology is not accepted.

I would certainly acknowledge it. These days email is as appropriate as anything. Besides, maybe the person didn't want to disturb you with a phone call or visit.
