I certainly think in terms of looks, whites are gorgeous? (only side note) Main point is that history texts are culturally biased. Really because there aren't enough impact of asian or african-american harvard sociologists or historians to make this impact of shifting to a broader-based assessment of contributions. I am asian and I orient myself with caucasian standards because that is the world we live in, here in the united states. I definitely know asians and african americans (and hispanics, etc) are making quite an impact, but it is in the most recent times that the impact has been great. How to make sense of human achievements in terms of race? (If you've got racist or insensitive comments, hold your thoughts) If you have any thoughtful comments, please educate me. I am asian and I am quite aware of asian contributions in especially science and mathematics. But beyond the stereotype, there are influences in the arts, even theatre, definitely movies (asian directors).

I suppose this is a question of philosophics and morality. What I'm getting at, is that people seem to think it's cruel to say things that might offend someone, because "Aww, you hurt their feelings!"

But isn't it immoral as a society, to ignore the issues at hand, due to being afraid of hurting someone's feelings?

Then again, the flip side becomes, "Who's to say what's the greater good? When does the feelings of the individual(s) become outweighed by the feelings of society as a collective?"

What do you think?

I have an assignment in Psychology where I have to violate a "social norm" three different times (I'm guessing in three different situations)...Can someone give me some ideas?

I was thinking about being obnoxiously loud in a library, but how could I carry that out in a regular setting (i.e. a regular store)? I mean, people are loud all the time in stores.
Ideas, please???

Thank you!

The Oxford Dictionary defines Terrorism as,
the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims

And the Oxford Dictionary defines Terrorist as,
a person who uses terrorism in pursuit of political aims

Terrorism is a tactic, not a group or organization. According to these definitions, the American Colonists fighting for independence would have been terrorists, the United States involvement in World War 2 would have been terrorism. My point here is that there is a lot of conflict "wars" occurring around the world and this is nothing new. So if oppression, deprivation of vital resources among many other ugly sociological conditions drive people to wage war, I have to ask two questions...

1. How can we discriminate between who is a terrorist and who is not a terrorist?

2. By giving people who feel oppressed/violated vague negative labels are we stopping or spreading violence?

If "yes", suggest solutions. If "no", state what you think is the prime cause of societal problems.

Additionally, say so if you are a parent yourself, or of "childbearing" age (both men and women).
