Whenever I go jogging and I someone else is jogging towards me, I always feel extremely uncomfortable about giving them eye contact or letting them know ive acknowled them. I even wounder if a smile is appropriate. Sometimes I do smile but don't get a smile back. I often try to focus on a distance far away ahead of me to try to take my mind off the situation but then I think that they will inturpret it as me being rude. When I do give eye contact as they get closer, I feel as if im giving too much eye contact and making them feel uncomfortable. I certainly dont have that problem if im jogging next to a friend though. Does anyone else have this issue....or am I just a strange women who thinks way too much???

Who really is the media and why do we listen to them? In the time of the native americans, size was simply not an issue. You could be the largest man alive and still be given the respect you deserve. You could have a skarred face, but it was okay, because everyone was diferent and diversity was appreciated back then. How has the media come into our society and molded our minds into thinking that that isn't true anymore? I myself am 13, and simply do not understand this. What makes a stick skinny woman any more beautiful than a woman with a little extra flab? And since when did beauty radiate from the outside rather than from within? Since when has the word 'diet' become one of the most searched words on the internet? Since when was starving yourself a solution to anything? How does the media literally brainwash us? If this is what "ideal" is then what hope is left and what has society come to? Walking skeletons, and faces made of plastic? And WHEN is somebody going to STAND UP.

...and that principles and morals are negotiable in the quest for money and material benefits?

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the most principled, and 10 being the most money minded, where would you place yourself? Answer honestly. If you feel you don't want to reveal this in your normal avatar, create a new one, but give me an honest answer.

Since I asked this, I think I need to answer it too. A few years back, I would have given myself a score of 3 or 4. Today, I think I would rate myself 7 or 8. I'm not very proud to say it, but I have had to let my principles go by at times.

have you ever noticed one of the most famous lines in a relationship is.. "I hope you dont mind the fact that most of my friends are of the opposite sex!"
Why is that? Is it a way for cheaters to have an excuse to hang out with their lovers?,simply cause it realy is easier to make friends with them?, cause we like to be center of attention?
What is your opinion?

I understand that Symbolic Interactionism, alongside with Marxism & Class Confict and Funtionalism, are the three main theories in sociology. What I don't understand is how we can use SI to view a situation in describing the big picture (because it can't right?)

Using prostitution as an example: A functionalist may think that prostitution is necessary for society to function, while a conflict theorist figure out what forces drive the women into prosititution - poverty? unemployment? But how can a SI-ist view this situation? I don't quite understand.

Thanks for your response in advance!

I'm doing a project for school, and it includes telling the race ratio of a country in South America. Part of the ratio is Black/Malutto. I seem to have an unforunate tendicy to use scottish names, having a scottish mother. I tend to call blacks ******. Not in a condesending way, but some people at my school think that it is racist-The boy is from CA. I just want to know if the majority agrees. Again, I don't mean in a condesending way. I don't want opinion, please. I would like to know if this is considered racist. I use the spanish term for 'black'. So what?
Thanks!
