I want to open up a rape counceling place?

But I still need to go to college. Can I open one up with only a Social workers degree a Bachelors. I was raped and I want to help those that were. Does the government pay us or will me and my husband have to fork all the money out cause I want it to be a free clinic. Pls this is my dream.

I think all you need is the desire. You put together a business plan and submit applications for grants from the government. Start networking with groups that already exist. Go into it knowing your stuff, don't rush. Your heart is in the right place, now trust the process. For right now, check out a DVD called The Secret. Oprah featured it on her show. It will inspire you to the point where you know your dream can happen. Good Luck

If you open a private counselling service, you won't get government assistance. If you truly want it to be a free clinic, you'll have to apply for grants, etc. And you need GOOD qualifications to counsel people. A bacherlors' degree in social work isn't sufficient. Perhaps you should consider working for an existing agency for a while first. Plunging into something like that without any experience is probably not a good idea.

Better yet, hire counsellors who specialize in the area of violence prevention. Ive been in the area for 10 yrs. If you dont have a degree yet you may want to volunteer at a sexual assault centre or women's shelter to gain experience in working with other women. There is funding from the government but can be limited (I live in Canada). Its a great dream :)

Try contacting local non-profits that have the same types of programs. I'm sure there is already a place set up where you can do this.
