Who really is the media and why do we listen to them? In the time of the native americans, size was simply not an issue. You could be the largest man alive and still be given the respect you deserve. You could have a skarred face, but it was okay, because everyone was diferent and diversity was appreciated back then. How has the media come into our society and molded our minds into thinking that that isn't true anymore? I myself am 13, and simply do not understand this. What makes a stick skinny woman any more beautiful than a woman with a little extra flab? And since when did beauty radiate from the outside rather than from within? Since when has the word 'diet' become one of the most searched words on the internet? Since when was starving yourself a solution to anything? How does the media literally brainwash us? If this is what "ideal" is then what hope is left and what has society come to? Walking skeletons, and faces made of plastic? And WHEN is somebody going to STAND UP.

for only 13, you are very intelligent and insightful. the media are those who have a desire to communicate and influence society with their ideas. most people in the media consider themselves the intellectual elite or cultured than the average american. this isn't true.
the media has way too much influence on us, because we allow it. when we stop spending the money, when we write letters to tell producers to start putting more realistic people in shows, and when we stop watching, it will end.

Who is the media? "The Media" as an entity does not exist, it is a phrase describing all the ways in which information is transmitted to "The People". By the way, in the time of "The Native Americans" those who were different were usually shunned, ran off, or killed by the others of the tribe. Anyone different was the enemy. Physical beauty has always been seen as something to be admired. The only thing that differs from culture to culture is the definition of what is beautiful, even today in the world there are cultures that value certain physical aspects as more beautiful than others. Diet doesn't mean starving yourself and it is searched most often because more people are concerned about the unhealthy aspects of obesity which is growing worse in our time because of inactivity, some of which may be attributed to the increase in internet use. Perhaps when you mature a bit more you will feel better about yourself and not be bothered by not being at either end of the physical spectrum. As Buddha said, it is better to follow the middle way.

Hello.
Have you heard of the Illuminati, that is, the so called enlightened ones?

Don't listen, watch or read off the media. There is no positive, only the opposite. Your topic is too broad to elaborate on. Don't follow others. Also know that it's a man's (as in human in the flesh) world. Look around and make a list of the things around you that are A) man-made and B) natural. In a big city you will notice how hard it is to find such natural things around you besides the trees that man has planted there, which was added after the cement was put around it.
Matthew 15:14 "Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch."
Like attracts like.

This is a way to control mankind.......and exercise a form of order on the mass of society.......those that choose not to follow the norm are deemed different therefore outkast and judged by the mass....media is just the director of the camerea we all all looking at the world through........TV...newspapers...magazines...etc.. First thing, change your diet of information...its OK to be different and many times once U start being yourself you may realize how superficial everything and everyone in your life has been up to that point...(many call this the awakening) .unfortunately media gives many people the only way they know how to live.......in an endless progression to gain more and more STUFF and physically fit a mold that is just plain unrealistic...good luck standing up because once you do you may realize that not everyone wants to be awake.......and you'll be on your own....the saying ignorance is bliss really is true........what it really comes down to is the choices YOU make in your own life and if you choose to walk down the path less traveled good luck because the only light you will have in your times of darkness is you faith to live life the way you choose not in some mold of the sleepwalkers

You sound like you're hearing too much rightwing hate speech. If anything, it's likely that people are somewhat more tolerant of different appearances than used to be the case. In any case, worrying about "the media" (like it was one thing) misses the point most media are common carriers that outside interests pay to distribute their materials.

the media has done nothing to change my opinion of myself or how i am to act. i am in charge of my own life. what another adult chooses to do (within the confines of the law) is his/her own business. i have an active, fulfilling life that doesn't involve the angst of celebrities.
