Toddler & Preschooler - September 2007

My two year old (well, two years, five months) is weighing in at 37 lbs and is over 37 inches tall. He is just at the limit for his convertible car seat (infant to toddler), but is not allowed to be in a booster in our state (PA) until age 3. My 4 month old is 18 lbs and over 27 inches tall, and is too large for his carrier car seat, so the plan is to switch him into his brother's car seat and get a new one for the toddler.

Problem is, I am having a really hard time finding a toddler seat that has the 5 pt harness that he needs until he turns 3, because it seems that all the seats that I look at have a weight limit for the harness (over 30 lbs will have to use the car's lap belt). I can't afford to pay a ton of money for a new seat, but I need to find a good, safe seat that will (hopefully) last a long time.

Anyone else have a big kid that can give some advice on this?

thanks!

2x a week my oldest goes to pre school, which is on the second floor across from an indoor playground. To get him there (I have no sitters) I must take my 2yr old twins, one in each hand. When I get there I fight to keep my oldest from running into the playground. Then I must let go of a twin to put on the oldests indoor shoes while the twin runns either to the elevator or into the playground (which is packed with people).
Then when I claim the run away child I must stand in a line of mothers and wait to sign my oldest in. (again, involving letting go of a twin...him running...me scrambling). Then I need to move across the room to the cubby holes pulling twins away from pre school toys (they are not allowed to touch orderofschool),. When I pick him up again, to kids in each hand, waiting in a lineup for 15 minuts, letting go to sign him out, chasing twin, letting go to put on outdoor shoes, chasing twin, fighting past the indoor playground. How can I simplify this. I have no 1 2 help?

She is 1 1/2 years old and I just think she is too big for it. During the day she will do fine without it, but for naps and bedtime she needs it. Or she thinks she needs it.

Cappy is 4 years old and we adopted him 3 months ago. He is a perfect dog in all ways but this. He became my 18 year old daughter's dog immediately. He is well trained in all other ways but goes in my room and my bed! While dd was out of town he didn't go anywhere but outside but as soon as she came back he started going in my room and my bed again. She takes him out and he does his business, comes inside and goes in my room to go again. If my bedroom door is closed he will go in the hallway outside my door. He is crate trained will ask to go out and perfect in every other way. He won't go inside if we are in the room or can see him. He sneeks to poop in the house. HELP!! I am starting to hate this sweet, lovable dog! -

My mother in law is terminally ill. We're not sure when she will die, but it will be within the next 1-2 years. In watching my son's development into a human being, I realized they have no way of understanding death at this age. He's really close to her and I am not sure how to deal with it when it happens. He doesn't really understand "God", and we're not religious. I've been trying to introduce the concept of God to him, but it is obviously too vast for a 3 year old to get although he is extremely smart.
Ideas please? personal experiences?

my son, is what you would say a "normal" three year old. he'll be four in april. he likes playing with other kids, likes playing with his toys, loves wrestling with his dad, loves for us to read to him, he absolutely loves music, and he is an affectionate little boy! he is a typical kid, he throws tanterums when he is mad.
my son likes to watch nickelodeon and the disney channel....the thing i was wondering about, was the fact that i just found out, on friday, that he likes to watch that scene on "Face/Off" where john travolta and nicholas cage switch faces? he just sat there and said "look mommy they're cutting his face". my brother in law told me that he went back to that scene a couple of times! he also likes to watch action movies where people are fighting! so i guess i was just wondering if i should even let him watch these kinds of movies and why is he so into them?
SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!

We are traveling to Hawaii in Feb with a 2 1/2 and a 4 month old. My question is what is easier on the children and parents, a flight with a few stops or a straight through flight. I dont think coming home will be a problem because it is a night flight but I am worried about going out there. We are traveling from Florida so straight through is at least 12 hrs. Any past experiences or help, my toddler is not very good for long distance so that is who I am thinking of the most.

She has fits when you take something away from her and on occasions she will get so mad that she will hold her breath until she passes out. Is this some sort of disorder? I am really concerned.

The Parent's as Teacher's rep that comes by our house always commented on how big our son is (he's currently four). She mentioned that she read a study once that stated you can measure their height when they are three years old....then double the inch's for their full height as an adult. I'm hoping it's wrong because that would put our son at about 6'9-6'10 when fully grown. I'm 6'1...wife is 5'11....father in law is 6'5...brother in law is 6'7...so the height possibilty is there. Just curious if any others had ever heard of this formula?
