my son, is what you would say a "normal" three year old. he'll be four in april. he likes playing with other kids, likes playing with his toys, loves wrestling with his dad, loves for us to read to him, he absolutely loves music, and he is an affectionate little boy! he is a typical kid, he throws tanterums when he is mad.
my son likes to watch nickelodeon and the disney channel....the thing i was wondering about, was the fact that i just found out, on friday, that he likes to watch that scene on "Face/Off" where john travolta and nicholas cage switch faces? he just sat there and said "look mommy they're cutting his face". my brother in law told me that he went back to that scene a couple of times! he also likes to watch action movies where people are fighting! so i guess i was just wondering if i should even let him watch these kinds of movies and why is he so into them?
SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!

Oh my goodness, he's watching the Face Off scene?? He's only 3!!! No, you really shouldn't. My brother let my nephew watch all sorts of violent scenes (like Lord of the Rings) when he was 4yrs old, and he had a terrible time of distinguishing the movies from real life. Always afraid 'bad men' were in the closet, waiting to get him. Make sure he's not in the room when adult movies come on.

My son is 3 and also and very bright, healthy, active little boy...I don't know about the actual cutting of the face, but the action parts should be fine. My son has seen Pirates of the Carribean I and II and loved it.......he was never scared or anything...and he watched Goonies, he liked that alot...oh he is also a fan of Ghost Busters lol and he was 2 when he saw these movies

He's probably fascinated with the concept of a face coming off, and probably has no idea what it really means. That's why he went back and forth. He's only three years old, those movies, and scenes are way above his understanding right now, you shouldn't let him watch them.

Any gorey show or movie, he shouldn't see. You'd be surprised what kids can do to try to mimic what they see on television. Shows with fighting they can easily mimic with friends and possibly hurt a friend. If he like the guys cutting off their face, he may try and do it himself, with a friend or sibling. I definitely would not let him watch those things. He is far too young to understand what is real and what isn't.

There is a reason for movie ratings....Face/Off is rated R, and I would not let my 14 & 15yr olds watch it....

I would be concerned that your brother-in-law would let him rewind & play a certain scene of a R movie over and over for a 3yr old......

Here is a good site to determine what is actually in the movie...

He watches them for the same reason adults do - gross fascination!

I don't think an occasional exposure to action stuff will harm him, but I also don't think he needs to be sitting down and watching violent movies all the time.

nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! he's three! three's cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality. stick to nickelodeon and disney. i can tell a huge difference in my class between the children who watch these types of movies and those that do not when they play. they come in telling me "i watched batman. i watched spiderman. i saw transformers! i watched the simpson's!" don't do it!!!!

I've raised 3 of my nephews, and action movies are okay for them to watch, as long as they understand its acting and not real. I just believe that television and movies are there for entertainment, and its our responsibility to make sure our kids know the difference.

good luck

well it all depends on how gorey it is. if there are guts flying everywhere then of course don't let him watch it. my neighbor has four boys and they love fighting. their 6 year old joined tae-kwon-do at the age of 2.
