One of my friend's sisters gave birth to a little girl 7 months ago. I think she is a beautiful baby, but the medical problems that she has are unbelievable.
She is deaf and blind, her brain is malformed so it is essentially only a shell surrounding fluid. She must go to the doctor for weekly injections of a growth hormone, because her body is not producing it, and she is expected to need a liver transplant within the next year.
Her mother had 7 miscarriages before having her, and was told by the doctors that the likelihood of her having a healthy child were slim to none. She herself had to recieve hormone injections during pregnancy because her body was rejecting the baby.
She is now planning to place her child for adoption, but she plans to try having another baby. Does anyone else see this as completely wrong?
This whole situation has me really upset right now. I would honestly tie her tubes myself if she were here...
What do you think?

Hi All,

My friend and i have had some conflicting advise regarding water to an infant. I was told not to give water because it is already in the formula/breastmilk. I was told to dilute the formula a little meaning an extra 5mls if baby is a little constipated but only for that reason.

She was told to give water when it is hot, which i don't agree with and my maternal health nurse doesn't agree either. Water doesn't provide the nutrients.

What has everyone else been told?

Ok, so we have a family friend who is having a Birthday party for their baby who turns 1yo on the 5th of January.
We had an invitation emailed to us this morning. It stated there is a cover charge of $5 per person (That is $20 for my family $40 for my eldest sister in-law!!!).
But to make matters worse it actually states on the invitation some people are free, and has a list of all her family!!

Now I do like these people (sometimes), but find this really rude.
Who has a fee on a 1yo's birthday party???

The fee goes to fireworks, but it isn't the point. If you can't afford to do a big party, don't. And plus some kids that young are scared of loud noises!!
My kids have Birthday Parties at home with a simple barbecue and they are happy.

Maybe I am just being cheap. I don't know. I thought it was rude!!

Your thoughts???

Mother of a 7 year old and I a 2 month old, my 2 month old crys when his not in my arms, he gets realy upset and starts screaming. I have tried to stand by him so he sees me or hears me but still he gets realy mad. I feel so confused since all my family says that I am spoiling him and that when he starts daycare (nursery) they will not care for a crying baby and even may become frustrated and hurt him so what should I do?

This is probably more of me just venting then a question. So I had my little boy a month ago today and I feel like since the day he was born it's been me and him all the time. I'm not saying I don't like spending time with him because I do, it's just sometimes I would like to be able to go shopping without him. You would think I'm a single parent but I'm not. Every day I do the same thing, wake up and take care of the baby and even when my bf does get home, he cares for him until he cries or needs something. I wake up in the night with him, while my bf just sleeps, I mean I understand he has work, but he's a father first! When I want to go do something without him and the baby, he makes a big deal about it and ends up coming alone. It's not like I want to go party or anything like that, I just want 15 minutes to myself sometimes!

my questions are: Why do mothers spend the most time with their children while the father is free to do whatever he wants when he wants?

I just had my son on dec. 23rd we have been home from the hospital since wednesday and everyone is trying to help (which is a great thing) since i had a c-section and can't move as well .. but my hubby's sister said something today that brought me to tears she said "i don't see alex(my son) look at anyone the way he looks at you" that really made me feel like crap and everytime i think about it i cry because i feel like he does because when it's time for a feeding no1 lets me do it i say i got it but they just say its okay sit down and relax it just really hurts me because i know feeding time is bonding time and i don't feel like i get any bonding time and my hubby don't understand and says i blow everything out of proportion. maybe it's just post partum depression and will go away? i don't know i need some advice

I am looking at wipe warmers for the baby. Are these necessary? Seems like it is doing nothing more than spoiling the baby with a warm butt. Also, it would be setting him up for getting angry when I don't use warm wipes when I am not at home.

Also, I am looking at baby swings. We bought a bouncy seat already, but I was wondering if spending $100+ on a baby swing is really a necessity or will my bouncy seat be ok? What kind of swing do you have?

What are some of the best baby products that your money was well spent on.

Thanks in advance!!

I am very new to this site and for the life of me can't figure out how to respond to everyone other than rate a top answer. My husband is going to help me to figure it al out later. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has answered my questions and provided helpful information. We tried a Dr. Brown's bottle and he took a full feed for the first time in 6 weeks and latched back on, etc. He kept it down and was happy. I know we have a long road ahead of us, but I thank you all for support and the information. I am going to check with Dr., this week about formula. FIngers crossed he grows out of this quickly. Thanks again.

All of my family and friends and even my daughter's doctor say she needs to be sleeping all the way through the night, like 10 hours without waking. She is breastfed and usually wakes up once to eat in the night. Does this mean I am doing something wrong? She will go to bed at 9:30 PM and wake at 3 AM, nurse, go back to sleep and sleep until 8:00 or 8:30 AM.

I don't know if him being mixed has anything to do with it. The only place he smells bad is his head. He is only 14 weeks old and has smelled bad since birth. I know this sounds bad, but I really want to know. I can't find anything on the internet about it. I am embarrasses to ask the doctor, but I think I will his next visit.

my son has alot of books and enjoys looking and "reading" them with me and he has 2 in paticular that he enjoys the most and when I name the titles of the book he goes and searches for them in the pile and brings it to me! I just thought that was impressive! Is this "normal" around this time? I just found it advanced, but I am new at this.

My daughter used to have a bowl movement after every feeding when i was nursing, however I had to quit nursing her and started to give her formula, she is not on a medication she has to take 3 times daily-that combined with her formula (i think its the combo of both) makes her constipated, for days she will not go, and only after the third day when i stick a thermometer up her butt will she go poop. Her poop is not formed, but its like putty, like a pasty texture..she is only 2 months old and cant have a laxative or whatever and switching her medication is not an option ( its for her heart)
any good tips on helping her poop?
