what's the difference in the Diaper Genie 1 and Diaper Genie 2 besides the price. Anything?

I used a diaper genie with my first. It was good for those first few months--then they start solids and all bets are off. So then I tried covering up the smell with Febreeze. Suffice it to say that the two smells mix together and now I can no longer stand Febreeze, four years later. The second time around I just walk them right out the front door and put them in the trash can outside. I figure this helps me get closer to the recommended 10,000 steps per day and every little bit helps after giving birth. The trash bag thing works too, but save your money and skip a diaper system.

First off, I love my diaper genie! I have the Diaper Genie II and there really is a difference. My mom is using the original with my brother and I used one made by safety first with my 1st son. Both waste SOOOO much bag! We would empty the bags and there would be twice the amount of bag used than there were diapers in the bag.The Diaper Genie II hardly uses any bag at all. When we empty it, the entire bag is full. The refills aren't that expensive either. They last a long time. I would recomend having a seperate trash can for baby diapers. Whether it be the diaper genie or something else. First off, even if you wrap up a dirty diaper in one of those diaper bags they still tend to stink up the kitchen trash. Second, things like diaper genies or other diaper disposals have things built in to block the odors from escaping. Good luck and congrats!

I have a diaper genie I and have no complaints. My daughter is a week short of 3 months. We empty it every 3 days, so the odor never builds up really bad. Until you learn how to empty the bottom right, it can be a pain... but once I learned that if I had my husband hold open a trash bag for me while I held it up at my waist level, it was fine.

Every once in a while, my daughter will have a diaper that is SUPER smelly. I usually don't put those straight in the diaper genie. I have those disposable scented bags from the dollar store (bought to carry with me in my diaper bag), and I'll wrap it in that. If the diaper genie is towards full, I'll stick it in there. If its newly been changed and isn't due for a few more days, then I'll throw it in the kitchen garbage since it generally gets taken out more frequently.

I used to use a diaper genie. Key word: used. It was such a pain in the butt to empty. I got the point where I said no more. Now I just use a plastic kroger bag, put it on the bedroom door and put wet diapers in that. Dirty diapers out in the trash in a bag right away. At the end of the nite I put a new bag on. It seems a lot easier then dealing with the diaper genie. I know some mothers love them though.

I have a diaper genie 2 and I like it. It works well, easy to use, no smell. My daughter is 8 months and on solids and doesn't smell.

The difference between the two is that the original you put the diaper in and then twist it somehow and it uses up the bags quicker and I guess is messier ( I read this on a review) and the diaper genie two you just lift the lid and push the diaper down.

I have the Diaper Champ and I love it. No special bags to buy. I just use the plastic ones from the grocery store and when it's full it goes out to the bin. It costs the same as the Diaper Genie 2. No smells either. =)

Even better than the above: I got "diaper disposal bags" at Dollar Tree for $1........there are 100 in the box. that is penny each. I keep a wal-mart bag in a small garbage bin in her room, the living room and the bathroom. The poops get bagged, the rest get balled up and the bags are emptied each day. saves a ton of money and the house still smells okay.
I had a diaper Genie.......they SUCK. those refills cost an arm and a leg and they don't even work. the stupid thing still smelled bad. and they are SO hard to start........you have to twist it, then the first one keeps coming untwisted, then it won't catch to twist.......huge waste of diaper genie "film" as they call it......please, don't bother

I have a diaper genie 2 and love it. I bought it on the advice of other mothers and have not regretted it. So far (our son is almost 5 weeks old) I have not noticed a smell even when I empty the bag. More importantly neither has my mother in law and she notices everything. I do not know about the one, maybe that is what everyone is complaining about. I have the two and love it.

I so agree with tory!!

Diaper Genies are horrible!!

The point of the thing is to keep the dirty diaper smell from being in your house... well, it doesn't work that well for one and then when you go to change the thing it is a powerful stink that has built up in there and gets loose in your house!

You can't change/throw them out daily since you have to have so many before you can put a new seal on it and then often bust open!

Trust her!! Just throw them into the waste basket or into G bags and then the whole thing out at night! Trust her!!

They are a TOTAL waste of hard earned cash. I agree with #1, or go to your local Dollar Tree in the baby section and buy $1.00 box of those diapers bags, like 50 or so to a box. They're normally scented and they have little tie shut handles, then pitch the into a grocery bag for the day, big trash bag at night, start out fresh the next day. Cheap, more useful, and works.
