My 3 month old is about 13 pounds and his car seat carrier is so damn heavy, its getting hard to carrier because i only weight about 100lbs and its killing my arm. so i was just wondering if its ok to put him into a toddler rear facing car seat, on the car seat it says min 5lbs to to 40 lbs. but i'm just wanting to see if anyone else has done it

My son has been in the same car seat since birth. I bought it when I was still pregnant, he rode in it facing toward the rear until he turned 1 and now he rides forward facing. You can buy pillows and things like that to help support your baby while in these types of car seats. As long as the seat supports 5lbs to 40 lbs I don't see why you cant place your baby in it. Good Luck!!

OF COURSE!

Also, just so you know, you do not HAVE to get the infant seat out. If you wanted to use the seat a little longer or for grocery shopping.

Make sure it is a convertible seat rear faced. Some parents don't even buy an infant seat. They didn't have that 20 years ago anyways.

If you do buy one invest in a good one that will last. The cheaper ones are cheaper for a reason, they do not last long. Britax is best. They have a higher rear facing limit of 33 lbs. and forward of 55 or more. They will last till your child is 5 or 6. The other ones, only till 3 maybe. Don't get the 5 to 100 ones though (Eddie Bauer, Safety First, and Cosco Alpha Omega Elite), those are no good and Graco is no good too.

Just do plenty of research before you choose, since this is a good investment piece, think of it as a car, you don;t want to just buy ANYTHING.

Remember too, that if you do buy a new one, you can always put the infant seat in the trunk for shopping trips.

You just need to check the height and weight requirements on a new car seat. The only bad thing is your baby is still very young so if you don't have the carrier, it is difficult to shop, etc. because they cannot sit on their own, unless you are going to carry the baby in a sling or baby bjorn. You kind of need the carrier until they can sit very well unassisted, usually around 6 to 7 months. I always parked near the carts at the store so I could just lift the seat from the base to the cart. Also for everywhere else, I would use my stroller, which the carrier attached to. Where I couldn't do that I used the baby bjorn.

You should be fine to put him in that car seat as long as its rear facing especially since it says min 5 lbs that means new borns can use it too
Most car seats have a way you can tilt it back so its more like the infant seat I know mine does so that will bbe more comfortable for a young one like yours..
And he only has to remain seated rear facing till he is ONE years old and 20 lbs

Yup, just make sure you have enough of a recline to support his head and neck. Some people skip the infant seat altogether if they have big enough babies.

Make sure the harness is on the bottom slots and that it is tight enough (you shouldn't be able to pinch a horizontal fold at his shoulders).

Come on over to car-seat.org. There are great carseat techs who can help you if you need help installing the seat (80-90% are not installed correctly).

It's not really a toddler carseat, it's a convertable carseat...newborn to toddler. You can try just leaving his carrier in the car instead of packing it in all the time, it would be the same idea but offer the support and comfort of the carrier.

It is my understanding that rear facing in the back seat is the best and safest for children up to 40 pounds.

Yes it is fine, just make sure its facing rear :) If the carseat can be used for a 5 lb'er it probably lays back a bit :)

No, wait until baby is 39 pounds. Of course, you will still weight 100 lb and I'll bet your seat carrier that you will be able to carry him then. Yes, baby is fine to put in the seat belt, NOW. What I don't understand is why you wait until "if anyone else has done it." The baby is YOURS, not anyone elses.

your baby SHOULD be in a rear facing carseat. It doesn't have to be the carrier/carseat. They suggest that they are left in that type of seat until they are atleast 6 months old. It protects their necks if you are ever in a car accident.
