Newborn & Baby - October 2007

I have tons of friends and family, but no one has mentioned a baby shower. Everyone keeps asking me when its going to be and I just politely say, "I'm not sure anyone is planning one, so I guess I'll be throwing it myself.", and everyone is like "Okay!". Every baby shower that I've been to has been thrown by a friend or family member of the mom-to-be. I don't mind planning my own...just wondering if that was waaaaay out of the norm.

I was just curious at what time, if there was one, did breastfeeding your child actually become a bonding situation.

Perhaps I'm just a bit jaded for the moment. It's only been 2 weeks but it feels more like a battlefield than a bonding situation. First there was the sore nipples and learning to latch correctly. Now that we've got that down, it seems either gas or colic has got my daughter all worked up. She bites down, pulls away and gets generally frusterated and hurts me. Any suggestions? And does everyone go through something similar and then once you have it all down it becomes that loving mother scene you see in the pictures, or do I need to expand my views of bonding?

Has anybody tried buying "Berkley & Jenses" formula from BJ's? It's much less expensive and it seems almost the same as enfamil. I was wondering if anybody tried it, and if you would recommend it.

My son is a little over 4 months and since birth I have used a flat positioner to keep him on his back. For a awhile he would flip and sleep on his side which is fine. But know that he has masters how to roll onto his stomach, I always wake up and he is asleep on his stomach. He can easily lift his head now so he should not suffocate.
What I want to know is, should I stop using the positioner since either way he can get onto his stoach now.
Also do anyone elses babies sleep on their stomachs??
Thanks I have been really stessed about this :)

Hi, I gave birth last Sunday by vacuum delivery and had an episiotomy. My midwife came to visit yesterday and I mentionned to her that I suspected that one of the stiches became infected? She had a look at it and one had left a little gap. She said that the best thing to do would be to have 2 bath a day with a few drops of tea tree oil or lavender oil. I am not in terrible pain but I am constantly loosing pus.
For you ladies who had the same problem, were you advised the same thing?
What do you think? I am seeing her on Monday again. Shall I ask for something else? I am brestfeeding. Is there any antibiotics that I could have prescribed by my GP without affecting my milk?

My son has been to many doctors. Even a G.I. doctor I can not get him to eat. We have tried powerpacking his food and everything. I am still nursing because I have tried everything to get him to drink milk and he will have nothing to do with it. I tried all different flavors of milk. They tell me nothing major is wrong I just need him to eat. How can I do that? I have done Everything I can think of . Any ideas?

My baby has been drinking prune apple juice for 3 months now, He is 6 months old. I was wondering when he will start poohing on his own? He relies on it to pooh, if he doesn't drink his 2 portions of juice in a day his stool's are hard.. When does he start poohing on his own without the juice? Is this something to be concerned about He is almost 7 months old and i just starting giving him the juice twice a day, because once a day wasn't working. im afraid there's something wrong with his stomach.. but his doctor keeps telling me there's nothing wrong.. just keep giving him the juice, but it doesn't make any sense why my baby would have to relie on juice inorder for him too pooh?!?!

I want to purchase the Fisher Price safe voyage deluxe car seat. Its been rated well for safety and everyone that has one likes it. The problem is, every review I see on ANY car seat says that the seat really doesn't seem secure without LATCH holding the seat in.
Now, I'm getting really worried. My car doesn't have latch. Neither does my husband's truck, or her grandparent's vehichles. Our cars are 98 and older, but theirs are newer. I ead on consumer reports that you need to make sure a car seat doesn't move and inch in any given direction when you install it. Her infant seat moved ALL OVER the place because it couldn't be used with latch. The whole thing flipped upwards! And the police told me it was installed right! What am i going to do? Do I ahve to go out and get a new car or what??

Since my baby was born I'm looking at baby toys and thinking of what I should buy him. But I can't help noticing that so many toys seem like they are designed to be 'replacement parents'

You get toys that 'read stories' that light up to 'soothe the child to sleep' and I can't help feeling that that is the mum or dads work! Not some battery operated toy! My husband and I are not rich, but even if we were I'd like to think that the job of reading stories and teaching ABC or numbers are OUR job and our baby will be much happier to have our attention to him rather than buying expensive bits of plastic while we devote our attention elsewhere!

Maybe I'm being old fashioned here, but I can't help thinking that it's MY job to teach my son to read and count and soothe him to sleep.

What are your opinions on this?
thank you
