It's a practical way to comfort a baby who is breastfed and refuses an artificial pacifier.

observing the region, it must be that that became the only thank you to calm the toddler. For that depend, perhaps the toddler's mom already is conscious and is happy with it. a great form of females that age actually must have a toddler, even with the undeniable fact that, and given the possibility will 'play homestead' whilst babysitting by pretending the toddler is theirs - for her, this could advise 'nursing' it besides. in reality, i might say that instinctively it relatively is standard, yet so some distance as societal standards it fairly is not. I relatively does not prefer somebody else nursing my toddler, in spite of the fact that if he became getting milk or no longer - this is my job as his mom, and a place i does not take kindly to being crammed by somebody else. the two way, the toddler's mom could desire to be suggested of it in case she isn't happy with it - yet attempt to describe to her that it in all probability wasn't sexual, she purely had to 'be a mom'.

If the baby needed comfort and is breastfed, it might have been the only way for her to comfort the baby. If the baby is not breastfed, then your neice might have been picking up on her maternal instincts. Is this your baby? Don't scold her for this behavior, she might get a complex and grow up to think this behavior is wrong. You just need to sit her down and let her know that you can not feed a baby without actually getting pregnant so that your breast will produce the needed milk. I would also let her know that feeding someone elses baby is not known as "ok".

I don't know, I think that is pretty creepy also. I just don't see WHY someone would do that if not with their own child. I know if my sister was pacified my child like that, I would be a little miffed. Can we say"Hand that rocks the Cradle". If I saw someone else doing it, I'd mind my own business if its okay with the mom, and its for "pacifying" the baby, but I'd be creeped out. There no way I'd ever let my 14 year old daughter pacify a child like that either. If they aren't a mom, then its too early for them to start MAJOR parenting practices, such as sex and breastfeeding.

Well maybe if she was surrounded by breastfeeding recently or something, but I only saw younger kids do this, like to their baby dolls when they imitate their moms. (she was 3) To try and breastfeed your nephew at 14 doesn't seem normal. I have had many friends and I assure you, we liked babies but we fed them bottles if the mom wasn't exclusively breastfeeding. Those that think this is completely normal, ask your self, did you try and breastfeed a child when you were 14? And the answer should tell you whether it is normal or not. Also I babysat since I was 11, many babies, and letting them suck on me never once entered my mind when they were crying, never once!

If the mom is around, no, it is not normal. If she was babysitting and he was crying it could be the only thing that would help. A baby will not always try to feed from another woman's breast because it doesn't have their mom's scent.

The only thing I would be concerned with here is if she might be having thoughts of having a baby. Girls seem to be wanting one, and having one, earlier and earlier. Maybe a frank talk with a trusted adult would help?
Otherwise, I agree with the others. If the baby is breastfed- it may be the only thing that comforts him.

I don't think it is right. It gives me the creeps. Only that mother and baby should have that relationship. I would not want anyone else doing that with my baby. Just seems weird.

I think she is probably doing it out of curiousity. I don't think any harm is done, but I would tell the baby's mother and explain to your niece that it is inappropriate.
