my son is about 3 1/2 months and he is showing all the signs of teething--- chewing his hands, chewing on the bottle nipple, irrability, drooling, and the biggest one: swollen red gums on the bottom.
so my question, i read that you should give them a frozen washcloth and i have a question. should i wet it before it goes in the freezer?
i am a first time mommy so any advice about teething would be great... thanks!

My 2 week old baby has a temp of 99.6 (rectal) and has been very fussy. He won't let me put him down. Is this normal or should I call the doctor?

My sister is 6 months pregnant. i thought I would make her up a basket of all the essentials and a feew nice things for when baby comes. I've got all the usual like shampoo, nappy cream etc. Is there anything I may have missed, or is more unusual but nice that I could put in there? It's been quite a few yrs since I had my kids and I'm wondering what's new out there. Thanks in advance x

I'm throwing a baby shower for my brother and his wife. It's a couples shower. I'm buying some lotions and stuff for the mom-to-be from burts bees baby line, since I know she'd like it. But I would like to get my brother something too, that he will appreciate. I don't want it to be something really expensive because we are already spending a lot on the shower. Does anyone have any suggestions?

And just some additional info: They are not registering anywhere so I can't just pick something off their list. And they've asked that no one buy them blankets, clothes, or soft toys, etc. (Long story) They also want to pick out their own crib, carseat, moniters, etc etc. So I'm looking for something kind of unique that would be more appreciated by dad than mom.

Thanks in advance! :)

He had a bad reaction to his 12 month shots. I have decided to spread the rest of his shots out. Has anyone done this, what is the best way to split them up? I , of course, will talk to his doctor, I just want to have some information when I get there.

if you don't know how to do a self exam here's a picture guide: http://www.breastcancer.org/pictures/self_exam/index.jsp

if breastfeeding... look here (about half way down the article): http://www.llli.org/ba/May01.html

OK I am just looking for honest answers. At what age did you turn your child to a forward facing car seat? I am fully aware of the rules, -20 pounds and at least 1 year- however, many people tell me that they do not follow those rules and they don't know anyone (or few people) who do. So I would like to know just how many of you have followed the rule.
thanks!

I know that my son should be using a sippy cup more...but my daycare lady asked me if we'd be banishing the bottle any time soon...and actually..I hadn't thought about it...he only gets them at daycare, he only nurses at home...

We've used sippy cups in the past but all he has ever managed to do with it is make a mess and bonk himself in the head...so we kinda don't really use them...

I know he has to "grow up" and progress and all that...but the bottle is closer to nursing than a sippy cup, and if it offers him comfort at daycare while mommy's at work...whats the harm in it?

My son is about to be one , by the way.

So in your experience...when do we banish the bottle and only allow the sippy cups?

Please no negative comments about how he should be weaned or he should have been on a sippy cup at two weeks or anything ridiculous like that...I'm just looking for some "ballpark" guidelines and some feedback about your experiences.

Thanks.

ok my daughter is going to be three months in 10 days and for the past week or two it seems like whenever i breastfeed her she is not getting enough. she will nurse for about 5 mins and then starts fussing. so i switch to the other side and not even 5 mins later she is fussing again. and i check to see if anything is coming out it seems like nothing is coming out. when she was about 1 1/2 to 2 months old i started to give her a bottle every so often. like when we would have to go out somewhere. i just didn't feel all that comfortable breastfeeding in public. see i'm a bigger girl and i am very self conscious. and now i don't know if my milk is drying up or if she is just mad because it does not come out fast like a bottle. i have tried to pump and when i do nothing comes out. i really want to try to continue breastfeeding but it seems like she is not getting full.

My mom stopped over yesterday afternoon and when my daughter looked at her she started FREAKING out, really bad, took a while to calm her down and then she did it again. It's not like my mom is a stranger to her, she see's her several times a week. As a matter of fact the day before my mom came over and they were playing together with no problems. My poor mom left so upset, I don't get it? Any ideas? It was so random.

Note: to anyone that wants to suggest abuse of any sort, besides the fact that my mother would never do that, she hasn't even babysat in about 2 months, we just visit a few times a week.

My baby prefers to sleep in her car seat during the day than anywhere else (apart from on me - but that's hardly practical!) - is this okay, or should I try to discourage this?

My baby sleeps much better when I put him on the bed with me. He is not breast fed but he seems to sleep much sounder when he is near to me. Do you think it's ok for him to be on the bed? Health visitors & midwifes scared me so much about cot death that I worry if I'm doing the right thing or not. Does any of you co-sleep with your baby?
