Thermometer, the thing to clean out their nose, diaper wipes, a Binky, a teddy bear that has the sounds that mommy tummy makes, baby monitors, booties or socks, a cap for the babies head, nail trimmers, lotion and powder, sore bum cream, a classical music CD, some lavender lotion to help the baby sleep. Maybe some baby Einstein DVDs and rattles.

I'm currently following a checklist I've made up with my sister in laws and mother....I'm even buying some of the things now especially diapers you can never have too many of them since babies especially newborns can go thru at 10 or more a day depending. Formula I'm buying last minute when the baby is born because I'm planning on breast feeding but if it doesn't work I'll get formula. 1.Diapers you can never go wrong or have too much of them. 2.Bottles and pacificers it's safe to say the samething as with diapers. 3.Blankets, sleepers and oneies as well as booties and caps. Also a baby kit that includes brush, nail clippers, the bulb etcetc. 4.Crib, bouncer, travel system, swing and playpen(which usually comes with a little changing table for the top) Highchairs and walkers you won't really need til the baby is about 4 or more months depending how quick the baby grows. 5.Clothing and toys can be bought a little bit before your baby is due. Have a baby shower and you'd be amazed how much clothes, toys and other silly things you can or will get.

Muslin Squares for all of the baby sick! not really an exciting thing but this was something I never had even thought about also my friend made me a basket with sleepsuits and vests of all different sizes right up till baby was about 6 months old and it was great and came in useful. I still use the lovely wicker basket she put them all in now!
Another idea if she has any other children is a book for the older child about being a big brother or sister
Maybe a bottle of beer or cigar for dad to be
and a nice bottle of perfume for mum
and a cute little comforter for baby
oh and one of those sets where you can do their hand and footprints to keep - they are a bit different!
Hope this gives you some ideas

How about a manual breast pump and some lily padz? Or a really thourough baby book like Dr. Sears' "The Baby Book."
Maybe a copy of Mothering Magazine with a paid subscription card enclosed?
EarthMamaAngelBaby makes some fabulous pregnancy and post natal products for moms, like belly balm, nipple cream, sore bottom spray, etc...

well i think a baby sleeping bag is a good idea, you never know if a baby is gonna be wriggley also it puts mums mind at ease cause she knows the covers wont creep over babies face.
i must admit i do think the best present a new mother can get is company (having been there 2x) it is nice to know that while you are wrapped up in your baby, somebody is still thinking of you and is patient enough to realise that eventhough you do not have much time for anyone, you do not deserve to be forgotten lol.

Wow, you're going to get a fair few answers here I bet!
How about some socks for the labour ward (people often moan they get cold feet).
Some snacks and drinks in case she is in labour a long time and her partner doesn't want to leave her to get supplies,
A nice, dark coloured towel and flannel, as hospital ones are notoriously skinny and horrible!
Nappies, vests, wet wipes, bodysuit, hat, mitts etc for baby
Hope that's a few ideas for you!

I will tell you that if you go to Babiesrus website, they have a checklist there that you can go by. I would say the swaddlers blankets, a variety of the new bottles like Dr. Brown's, Soothie pacifiers, the Mommy Bear, and so much more. Babiesr us will definitely guide you.

Why not make a mini-basket just for your sister too? Include things like body lotion, a pedicure set, bath salts, a really nice exfoliating mitt, a hair treatment, emery boards, face packs, etc...

diapers ther smallest kind you can find, bottles usually ones that hold 6 oz. socks, bibs, formula, a couple clothes not too many because when my daughter came I got a whole bunch of clothes so many I can't buy her any and that makes me upset because she doesn't even need that many. Anyways maybe a baby monitor so she can hear the baby in the other room.
