Hi!

I am doing a research paper for my college class. Im researching the benifits of Kangaroo care and the benifits of incubator care for preterm infants. Of course the negative as well. Has anyone done this with thier baby (preemie or full term baby)? What were the benefits? Was there any negative part of your experience? How is it done? Are there any precautions that have to be taken? Feel free to answer any one of my questions or add on. You do not need to answer them all. If you havent done skin-to-skin contact with your baby, but you still know about it. Feel free to also add in.

Any help is greatly appriciated!!

If you would include your name, so i could use your information or quote you in my paper that would be extremly appreciated as well!

Thanks everyone!

My 9 month old son was choking 2 days ago. After trying to pat his back, and doing the infant heimlich--i put my finger in the back area of mouth and he gagged and coughed up a wrapper. I felt terrible and took him to our pediatrician---I had slightly scraped the back of his throat and it had a few drops of blood. His pediatrician told me everything else is fine. He has been fussy since---not taking naps as well or wanting to go in crib at night. He also hasn't wanted a bottle---but will eat baby food. He did drink some out of a sippy cup today. Of course if this continues I will take him back to doctor. I just wonder if anyone else has had this happen===doctor said throat may be tender. He also may be ready to take fewer bottles. It was his 7 year old sister who left candy wrapper on floor---so we are also addressing that. Thanks,Sam

today my mom and i were shopping at nordstrom & the baby had to be fed. she was being very discreet, but then some saleslady told her to leave and do it in a bathroom outside of the store! i think breastfeeding is a natural thing, and my mom should be able to do it wherever she wants...

My seven month old daughter is beginning to whine a lot and also to throw little mini temper tantrums! I am not sure how to handle this because I wasn't really expecting it until she was a bit older. It's not appropriate to discipline a baby like you would a toddler, so I don't really know what to do. It also is getting quite irritating because I'm with her all day and my extended family seems to think it is "cute"!
Mostly she does this when I need to put her down in order to complete a chore. I give her lots of attention and playtime and interact with her, but I like to think I also encourage her to be independent....I put her down on a blanket with favorite toys so she can play and I give her time in her jumparoo where she can see me for short periods of time.
This is a recent development....she only does it with me. I try to redirect her by distracting her with a different toy or sometimes I simply tell her "no" and finish up what I am doing. What do other people recommend?

When I breastfeed in public, (even when i'm turned away from everyone) there's always guys giving me the googly eyes, trying to catch a glimpse of my nipple.
And, I'm not exactly ugly or fat. Ha.
Whats peoples fascination with it? It's natural!
I don't sit there with my boobs hanging out, and I cover up the best I can.
I also never do it in the presence of children. If that happens, I go to the car, changing room in a store, womens lounge in a resturaunt or store, etc.
I'm not a hooker trying to expose myself.
But if it's 80 degrees out i'm not going to suffocate my child with a big blanket.
And, it will be a cold day in hell when I feed my son in a disgusting dirty germ infested bathroom stall.
What did some of you women do when this would/does happen?

I gave birth to my daughter 3 days ago, and my milk came in late yesterday. She nurses about every 2 hours and she seems to get plenty from the left breast-I see and hear her swallowing and I notice it get softer afterwards. My right breast I don't notice her swallowing, and it is still hard. I've tried hand expressing milk and I only get a few drops out, I also got a hand pump and absolutely nothing came out of the right side. So, I know I have milk in there, but how come its not coming out? ITS FRUSTRATING!

I was just wondering if other mothers worry about thier babies as much as I worry about my son.
I am ama first time mother and my son is 4 1/2 months old. I worry so much. Escpecially at night. My boyfriend deosnt seem to worry much and sleeps so sound.
I feel like such a worry wart and its a crazy feeling cause I know that some things I just wouldnt have control over and wont when he's older either.
I sometimes wish I could put a protective force field around him! Lol.

I can pretty much control which side he leans on during the day. Tonight, I've decided to prop him on his side with a rolled up blanket against his back so he will stay on that side. It appears to look safe. What do ya'll think? Also, is it still correctible? My doctor just pointed it out at his 4 month check up. I hadn't really noticed. I feel horrible like it's my fault.
