and has a really stuffy nose and has a hard time breathing. I am a little worried. I try using the nose asperater but nothing really seems to come out. Should I take him to the hospital & have a doctor have a look or is it OK to give a month old baby some baby tylenol?

Call the Dr. and get an OK for Tylenol. What ever you do don't use a humidifier it can get all moldy and make the baby's symptoms worse (my daughters pulmonologist told me this). Put your shower on high heat and stand in the bathroom with him to get rid on some of the stuffiness.

Regular Tylenol won't help with the congestion, and he's too little for infant decongestant. Have you tried a little saline solution in the nose before using the bulb syringe? That can help to break up what's blocking the nasal passages.

When my little one had the same problem, we also had good luck with the Sudacare Shower Soothers. They are a non-medicated tablet that you place in your shower, and the spray dissolves them and basically creates a steam room. If you have a humidifier to place by the crib/bassinette that would be beneficial too.

Before you go to the hospital, maybe you should call the pediatrician for any other suggestions.

Hope your little one gets better soon - good luck!

Sure. Tylenol is okay. Does he have a fever? They told me to mix up some salt water and dribble or spray it into his nose--basically nose spray to help it clear out. He needs lots of liquid--that will thin the drainage, and he'll probably be more comfortable propped up rather than laying flat. Again that promotes draining.

If tylenol doesn't help, and he has a high fever, I'd call the doctor on call for your pediatrician. If you feel the matter is getting out of hand, take him to the ER. But I'd be very wary of taking my teeny baby to a place where there are so many sick people. I'd try to handle it over the phone.

You should call the doctor's office and see if they can give you medical advice. My daughter is 3 months old and I have given her Tylenol only when she got her shots, the Dr. told me the exact dosage for her weight at the time. I think you might want to try a saline solution on the baby's nose. Good luck!

I wouldn't be giving a baby this young medication. All babies are snuffly when they are that young, some more then others. If you are *sure* he has a cold, you can try making some warm salt water up and dropping ONE drop a nostril and keeping it there for 30 seconds or so. It loosens any hardened mucus and then it either runs out, or you can suck it up in a minute or two.

When you are using your asperator, make sure you are getting an good seal between the asperator and nose - so your not sucking air around the nose, but from up the nose.

If that doesn't work, I'd go see your ped before giving him any medication.

I THOUGHT THE SAME THINGABOUT MY SON WHO IS NOW 4 MONTHS. HERE IS WHAT DOC SAID. BABIES TYPICALLY BREATH THROUGH THEIR NOSES ALL OF THE TIME SO IT GETS STUFFY JUST AS AN ADULTS DOES DURING THE NIGHT SOMETIMES. he told me to get unmedicated saline drops and put 2-3 drops in each nostril wait 60 seconds then aspirate and needed. there is a brand you cna buy in the baby seection of most grocery stores and wlmart called little noses and it has an aspirator to go with it

my son had the same problem. the nurse at the pediatrician told us to sit in the bathroom with him, turn the shower onto hot and let him just breathe in the steam. do that for about 10 to 15 mins, then try the saline drops and nose sucky thing.
also, let him sleep in a room with a humidifier, and have his head slightly elevated while he's asleep. this seemed to help us! good luck!

Don't give tylenol!!!!! Go to a doctor - but a little tip is to elevate the mattress they are sleeping with so they are slighltly sleeping on an angle, and then chop up an onion and put it on a saucer or plate and just leave it under the bed as they sleep - Stange but effective!

Do not give any tylenol without a Dr's advice. You need a humidifier in his room...if you don't have one...steam up the bathroom and sit in there for a bit with him...it helps release the mucus in his nose.

In addition to what has been put up so far before you rush out to the doctor, try a vapor bath warm water and I believe that it is made by Johnson and Johnson.
