There is glucose water that is given in very small doses to infants who are constipated, but only under the care of a physician (it's manufactured by makers of formula - Enfamil makes one). However, it is NEVER advisable to give a baby water other than that water and other than as directed. Babies can get water intoxication from too much water - which can be life-threatening.

Who told you to do this? Is your little one dehydrated? The only rehydrant that I know of with electrolytes safe for infants (and given in amounts as directed by a physician as well) is Pedialyte.

I would call your physician, describe the problem you are trying to address, and get medical advice from him or her.

I was told to give baby water inbetween milk especially when its hot, I was told sugar in the water gives it a bit of taste, water is good for the baby, just not too much too soon.

Sugar doesn't hydrate but it does have calories and can have effects on healthy tooth formation and weight gain. Babies should drink "natural - no sugar added" type drinks such as apple/grape/orange juice and breast milk (which strengthens the immune system and leads to heathly weight gain in later years).

You should not be giving your baby water. Water adds no nutrition so it adds fills his belly with something useless. Your baby should be getting mom's milk or formula. As they get older, you can start giving juice and so forth, but when they are babies, you have to be very efficient with nutrition. Empty calories, such as water should be avoided.

What? Who told you that? The baby gets all the water s/he needs from his/her formula.
